The wine list at Hendo's Barrel House reads exactly like you'd expect from a sports-bar gastropub — a greatest hits of recognizable names at prices that favor the house. Twenty-one labels doesn't sound bad until you realize there's no real curation happening, just familiar bottles that sell themselves. This is a drinks program built around beer and barrel cocktails, with wine clearly playing third string.
The list leans hard on California crowd-pleasers — Caymus Cab, Justin, Kim Crawford — the kind of lineup you'd find at any chain steakhouse from here to Scottsdale. There's a local nod with the Peltzer Feeling Cocky 2021, which at least acknowledges Temecula Wine Country is literally in the restaurant's backyard, but one regional pick doesn't make a regional program. There are no notable exploration options, no value-tier surprises from interesting producers, and no Old World representation to speak of. If you came hoping to drink through Temecula's terroir, you'll be largely disappointed.
Ten pours by the glass is a respectable count for a spot like this, and the happy hour house wine at $6 during the 2–6 p.m. window is genuinely the most compelling wine offer on the menu. Outside of that, the glass pours skew expensive relative to what's in them — $25 for a glass of Caymus is the kind of move that makes you put down the wine list and pick up a beer. Rotation appears nonexistent; what's on the list is what's on the list.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — $12/glass
At $12 a glass it's not a steal, but Kim Crawford is consistent, widely understood, and a reasonable ask alongside smoked meats. The bottle at $36 is the more defensible move if you're splitting it at the table.
Peltzer Feeling Cocky 2021
This is the one bottle on the list that actually makes sense for where you are. Peltzer is a solid Temecula producer and drinking local in wine country is always the right call — most people will scroll past it and order the Caymus on autopilot, which is exactly the wrong move.
Caymus California Cabernet
Twenty-five dollars a glass for Caymus is a hard no. This bottle retails for around $35–$40 and you're being charged $85 for the whole thing at the table. It's the most recognizable name on the list, which is exactly why it's priced like this. Order something else.
Justin Cabernet Sauvignon + Bourbon BBQ Wings
Justin Cab has enough dark fruit and structure to stand up to the smoky-sweet bourbon glaze on the wings without getting lost. It's not a complex pairing, but it works, and at $15 a glass it's the most sensible full-price pour on the menu for something coming off the smoker.
Monday–Thursday — Happy hour runs 2–6 p.m. Monday through Thursday with house wine for $6. No dedicated half-price wine night program identified.
❌ The Bottom Line
Hendo's is a fun place to watch a game and eat smoked meat — the wine list is an afterthought and priced accordingly. Come for the BBQ, drink the house wine during happy hour, and save the serious bottle for one of the actual wineries down the road.

Great Oak is a reliable, well-run resort steakhouse wine program — the sommelier presence and proper storage elevate it above the casino norm, but steep markups and a brand-name-heavy list keep it from being anything more than a very comfortable choice. Send a friend here if they want a guaranteed-good bottle of California Cab with a great steak; steer them elsewhere if they're looking for discovery.

Avensole's restaurant is a committed estate-only experience, and if you go in knowing that, it delivers — fair pricing, a smart flight format, and some genuinely interesting bottles you won't find anywhere else. Just don't show up hoping for a diverse wine list; this is a one-winery show, and you're either in or you're not.
