Wingman Metrics
The wine list at ELA'S On the Water reads exactly like the restaurant looks — polished, crowd-pleasing, and designed not to surprise anyone. You open it expecting Rombauer and Whispering Angel, and that's exactly what's waiting for you. It's not lazy, but it's not adventurous either.
The 40–70 label list is a California greatest hits compilation with a Provence cameo. Napa and Sonoma dominate — Silver Oak, Jordan, Rombauer — and there's nothing wrong with any of those choices, but there's also no reason to linger on the list. No interesting Burgundy, no off-the-beaten-path Italian, no domestic outliers to get excited about. The gaps are wide: if you want anything from Spain, Rhône, Germany, or the Southern Hemisphere, you're out of luck. This is a list built for guests who already know what they want before they sit down.
The by-the-glass program runs 12–20 options at $12–$18 a pour, which is a reasonable range for a waterfront spot charging $25–$40 for entrées. Expect the same California and Provence anchors in glass form — Whispering Angel will be there, Rombauer almost certainly too. Rotation appears minimal; this is a "set and forget" program that changes with the seasons at best.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley — $44
If Jordan is sitting at the lower end of their bottle range, it's the most defensible pick on the list — consistently well-made, food-friendly, and a genuine Sonoma benchmark that won't embarrass anyone at the table.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley
Most guests here are reaching for Silver Oak by reflex, but Jordan is the quieter, more elegant Sonoma Cab — less flashy, more food-compatible, and often priced a step below its better-known neighbor on lists like this.
Whispering Angel Rosé, Provence
It's a beautiful bottle and a fine wine, but Whispering Angel carries a serious lifestyle tax in restaurants. You're paying for the pink label as much as the wine. On a waterfront list with nowhere adventurous to go, it's the obvious trap.
Rombauer Chardonnay, Carneros + Crab Cakes
Rombauer's butter-forward Carneros Chard is basically engineered for rich shellfish — the oak and tropical fruit lean into the sweetness of crab without drowning it. It's a crowd-pleaser pairing, but it works, and it works on a waterfront patio better than almost anything else on this list.
✔️ The Bottom Line
ELA'S is a perfectly competent wine list for a perfectly competent upscale waterfront dinner — nothing here will wow you, but nothing will embarrass you either. Come for the sunset and the crab cakes; just don't expect the wine list to be the reason you came back.
Shelter Cove · Hilton Head Island · Seafood / New American
Sea Salt isn't trying to win a wine list award and it shows, but it's not trying to rip you off on selection either — just on price. If you're already there for the scallops and the view, the wine list will serve you fine; just set your expectations to vacation mode and not discovery mode.

Harbour Town / Sea Pines · Hilton Head Island · Resort / American
The Harbour Town Clubhouse wine list is exactly what it needs to be for its audience — familiar, functional, and unlikely to offend anyone in a golf shirt. Just know going in that you're paying resort prices for resort selections, and calibrate your expectations accordingly.

Reilley's is a reliable beach-town bar that happens to have wine — not a wine destination that happens to serve food. Hit it during happy hour for half-off house pours, order the Rosé with your crab cakes, and keep your expectations calibrated to the vibe.

Redfish is the kind of wine list that works better than it should for a coastal tourist spot — 400 bottles is nothing to dismiss, even if the selection leans on crowd-pleasing California names and the pricing reflects the zip code. Go in knowing what you want, order the Riesling by the glass, and you'll have a fine night.

Shelter Cove · Hilton Head Island · Upscale Coastal American
The Pearl is a solid, well-dressed list that serves its upscale coastal crowd without rocking any boats. Bring a group, let someone order the Miraval, and don't let the Silver Oak get near your credit card.

Il Carpaccio is a reliable dinner option for Hilton Head visitors who want a glass of something recognizable without overthinking it — but anyone hoping to find Italy on the wine list will come up short. Drink the bubbles, enjoy the pasta, and don't expect the list to challenge you.
