Wingman Metrics
You walk into East Coast Provisions — exposed brick, fireplaces, that buzzy multi-level energy — and the wine list feels like it was built to match the room: polished, crowd-friendly, and a little safe. Fifty-plus labels spanning California, France, Virginia, and beyond tells you someone put real thought in here. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's not going to embarrass you either.
The list leans hard into California — Napa Cabs, Russian River Pinots, Sonoma Chardonnay — which makes sense for a steakhouse-leaning seafood concept, but leaves adventurous drinkers with fewer corners to explore. France shows up respectably with Jadot Chablis, Veuve Clicquot, and Domaine Carneros on the sparkling side, plus solid Provence rosé representation. The Virginia section is a genuine bright spot: Barboursville Allegrante Rosé and Williamsburg Winery's Gabriel Archer Reserve give locals something to root for. The port and Madeira dessert wine lineup — Warres Otima 10YR, Sandeman 20YR Tawny, Henriques & Henriques Madeira — is a quiet overachiever that most tables will sleep on.
Eighteen-plus by-the-glass options is a legitimately strong number, and the spread covers bubbles, whites, rosé, and reds without forcing you into a corner. Glass prices run $9 to $16.50, which is fair for Richmond at this price point, though the top pours climb quickly. No evidence of regular rotation, so what you see is what you get — but what you get is more than enough to find something worth drinking.
Treana Cabernet (Paso Robles) — $36
Paso Robles Cab at the low end of the bottle list is the move. Treana consistently punches above its price, and against the Napa bottles on this list, it's the one that won't make your credit card flinch.
Warres Otima 10YR Tawny Port
Most tables skip straight past the dessert wine section, which means you can sit there with a glass of Otima 10YR while everyone else orders flourless chocolate cake and fights over the last bite. It's the smartest drink on the menu and almost nobody orders it.
Quilt Chardonnay (Napa Valley)
Quilt is a fine, inoffensive Napa Chard that you've had a hundred times at a hundred restaurants. It's not bad — it's just not interesting, and at this price point you can do better by walking one line up on the list to the Maison Louis Jadot Chablis.
Maison Louis Jadot Chablis + Fried Oysters
Unoaked, high-acid Chablis and briny fried oysters is a combination that exists for a reason. The wine cuts through the richness of the fry while amplifying the salt and sea. It's not a coincidence that they're both on the menu.
✔️ The Bottom Line
East Coast Provisions is a reliable wine destination for Richmond — not the most adventurous list in town, but well-curated, decently stocked by the glass, and genuinely better than the room requires. Send your friends here; just point them toward the Chablis and the port.
Scott's Addition · Richmond · American, Seafood
Lillian is the rare spot where the wine list is more ambitious than the address suggests — a focused, France-and-Italy-forward program with legit producers, a knowledgeable floor lead, and bottle prices that don't feel punitive. Send a friend here, tell them to sit at the counter, order oysters, and ask PJ what's open.

The Boathouse is a reliable choice if you time it right — hit that 4–6pm happy hour and suddenly the steep markups become a non-issue. Outside of that window, you're paying a premium for the view as much as the wine, which is fine as long as you go in knowing that.
