Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Delmonico Grill is exactly what you'd expect from a polished downtown steakhouse in Rapid City — approachable, Cal-heavy, and built to keep the room happy rather than impress the table in the corner debating vintages. It's not trying to be a wine destination, and it mostly succeeds at what it is. The pricing is refreshingly honest for a white-tablecloth room.
California dominates from front to back, with stops in Oregon, Argentina, Italy, Germany, and Australia filling out the map without much depth in any of them. You'll find familiar faces: Benziger Merlot, Meiomi Pinot Noir, Apothic Red — these are crowd-pleasers, not discoveries. The Katherine Goldschmidt Cabernet from Alexander Valley is the one pick that signals someone gave this list a second thought. Old World representation is thin and mostly decorative — a Clean Slate Riesling and a Caposaldo Pinot Grigio don't exactly make a case for Europe.
Thirteen options by the glass is a solid number for a steakhouse of this size, and the spread covers all the bases: bubbles, rosé, white, red. The Maysara Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley and the Gundlach Bundschu Mountain Cuvée are genuinely interesting pours that punch above the list's average ambition. Rotation appears static — don't expect seasonal surprises.
Altocedro Malbec 2017, Mendoza — $13/glass (est.)
A Mendoza Malbec in a steakhouse glass is almost always a great deal, and Altocedro is a serious producer with real terroir behind it. At this price point in a room charging $31-$50 for entrées, it's the smartest order on the list — full-bodied enough to stand up to a ribeye without breaking $15.
Maysara Pinot Noir 2016, Willamette Valley
Most people at a steakhouse reach for Cab or Merlot, which means the Maysara Pinot sits ignored. Maysara is a biodynamic estate in McMinnville doing legitimately good work — this is a sleeper pick that rewards the curious diner willing to step off the obvious path.
La Marca Prosecco DOC Extra Dry NV (split)
At $9 for a split with a retail of around $14 for a full bottle, you're paying a steep per-ounce rate for one of the most ubiquitous Proseccos in the country. It's fine — it's just not interesting, and you can do better on this list for the same money.
Katherine Goldschmidt Cabernet 2017, Alexander Valley + Seasonally evolving steak entrée
Alexander Valley Cab is practically engineered for a slab of beef — it's warmer and rounder than Napa, with enough dark fruit and structure to match the char on a well-seared steak without overwhelming it. Goldschmidt knows the appellation cold, and this is the bottle that earns its place on the list.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Delmonico Grill won't blow any wine nerds away, but the markups are fair, the glass program is broader than most South Dakota steakhouses bother with, and a few genuinely good producers sneak onto the list. Send a friend here for dinner — just steer them toward the Maysara or the Altocedro and away from the splits.

Timbers Lounge is a place to have a drink after a long drive to Mount Rushmore, not a destination for wine. Order a cocktail or a beer and save your wine energy for somewhere that's put in the work.

Mi Mexico is not a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — order a margarita, enjoy your meal, and don't expect the wine list to surprise you. If you absolutely must have wine with your tacos, the Sangria is $6.25 and nobody will judge you.

LongHorn Rapid City is exactly what it is — a reliable chain steakhouse with a wine list that was built by committee and hasn't changed much since. If you're here for the steak, you'll be fine; just aim for the Joel Gott and don't expect the staff to talk you through it.

There is no version of this wine list that warrants a special trip or even a deliberate order — it's a functional corporate program designed to move bottles, not to impress. If you're at Outback for the steak, grab the Alamos Malbec and call it a night; if wine actually matters to you, this is a cocktail dinner.

This is a wine list that exists purely because restaurants are expected to have one. Don't come to Applebee's for wine — but if you're already here and you need a glass, the Mondavi Cab won't embarrass you.

Red Lobster Rapid City's wine list exists to check a box, not to enhance your meal. Order the Riesling if you must, but honestly, a cocktail or a cold draft will serve you better here.

Jack Ryan's is a reliable steakhouse wine list in a pretty room — it'll get the job done, especially if you steer toward Jordan or Stag's Leap and avoid the Caymus trap. Don't come here expecting to discover anything, but you won't leave disappointed if you order smart.

Lanning's isn't trying to reinvent the wine list wheel, and honestly it doesn't need to — the glass pricing is fair, the producers are reliable, and the Belle Glos pour alone is worth a visit. If you want adventure, look elsewhere; if you want a confident Cab with your prime rib in a room that knows what it is, Lanning's delivers.
