Old-school steakhouse charm, California wine dependability

Walk into Cork 'N Cleaver and the wine list matches the room: dark wood, no surprises, comfortable in its own skin. It's a California-forward list built for steak people, not wine people — and it knows exactly what it is. That's not an insult, it's just context.
The list leans hard on California and Washington, which is a reasonable call for a steakhouse crowd that wants Cab with their ribeye and doesn't want to think too hard about it. Kendall-Jackson and Robert Mondavi anchor the roster — reliable names that move bottles, but not exactly a list that'll make you put your phone down in excitement. There's no real Old World presence to speak of, no Rhône, no Burgundy, no anything that suggests someone spent time curating beyond what the distributor rep recommended. Seafood is a significant part of the menu here, and the lack of serious white wine depth is a missed opportunity.
You're looking at somewhere between 8 and 14 glass pours, which is a workable range for a mid-upscale steakhouse. At $9–$15 a glass, pricing is on the steeper side relative to what's being poured, but it won't shock anyone used to dining out in this format. Rotation appears minimal — this is a set-it-and-forget-it program, not one where the BTG list surprises you on a return visit.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay — $12
It's not a bold pick, but KJ Chard is genuinely crowd-pleasing, widely available, and at the lower end of the glass pour range here it's the safest spend on the list — especially alongside the seafood specials.
Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon
Most people default to Mondavi on autopilot, but the Napa Cab they pour at a place like this is built for exactly this setting — red meat, dark room, no fuss. It's not fancy, but it does the job better than people give it credit for.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
At bottle price, you're paying steakhouse markup on a wine you can grab at any grocery store for $14. If you're ordering a bottle, push the staff for something with a little more story — or just order by the glass.
Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon + Hand-cut Ribeye
A Napa Cab and a well-marbled ribeye is the least surprising pairing on earth, but it's a cliché because it works. The fat in the ribeye tames the tannins; the Cab's dark fruit plays off the char. Sometimes the obvious answer is obvious for a reason.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Cork 'N Cleaver is a Fort Wayne institution for a reason — the steaks earn their reputation and the wine list keeps up well enough to not embarrass anyone. Just don't come here expecting discovery; come for a solid Cab, a great piece of beef, and a room that feels like 1987 in the best possible way.
Downtown-adjacent / Near West · Fort Wayne · Italian market and deli
Antonuccio's isn't a restaurant wine program — it's something more interesting: a genuine Italian market where you can eat well and leave with better bottles than most Fort Wayne restaurants will ever pour you. Come for lunch, leave with a Chianti, zero regrets.

Northwest (Jefferson Pointe / Illinois Rd corridor) · Fort Wayne · Upscale American Steakhouse
Eddie Merlot's Fort Wayne is a reliably well-run steakhouse wine program — proper storage, real glassware, a sommelier on the floor, and enough pours by the glass to satisfy a full table. The list won't challenge you, and the markups will sting, but if you want a classic California Cab with your prime beef and you want it done right, this place delivers.

Jefferson Pointe · Fort Wayne · American – Gourmet Burgers & Pub Fare
BRU Burger Bar is genuinely great at what it does — burgers, fries, a cold beer. The wine list exists as an afterthought for guests who don't drink beer, and it should be treated accordingly. Order a craft draft, save the wine for somewhere that cares.

Nawa is a fine place to eat; the wine list won't embarrass anyone, but it won't excite them either. Grab the Amarone or the Broquel Malbec, ignore the celebrity bottles, and let the food do the heavy lifting.
