The wine list at Salt Creek Grille reads exactly like the room looks — warm, polished, and built to please. It's a greatest-hits collection of California names that anyone who's ever been to a steakhouse will recognize immediately. There's comfort in that, even if there's not much adventure.
The list runs 80 to 120 bottles deep and leans hard into Napa and Sonoma, with Jordan, Stag's Leap, Rombauer, Duckhorn, and Frank Family doing most of the heavy lifting. Oregon and Washington get token representation, and France shows up just enough to keep the Bordeaux fans from walking out. What you won't find is anything left-field — no grower Champagne, no skin-contact whites, no small-production anything. This is a list curated for the Route 1 business dinner crowd, and it executes that mission without apology.
Fifteen pours by the glass is a respectable count for a steakhouse, ranging from $12 to $22. The BTG lineup mirrors the bottle list — Sonoma-Cutrer and Rombauer lead the whites, Meiomi and Whispering Angel anchor the lighter reds and rosé. Rotation appears minimal; don't expect seasonal surprises.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley — $40s (bottle)
Jordan consistently punches above its price class — structured enough for a ribeye, approachable enough that you don't need to wait on it. In a sea of Napa bottles with inflated tags, this Alexander Valley Cab is where the math actually works in your favor.
Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay
Most people reach straight for Rombauer here, and Rombauer will deliver the butter bomb they're after. But Sonoma-Cutrer brings more restraint and better acidity — it actually holds up against food rather than competing with it. Worth the slightly lower profile.
Whispering Angel Rosé
Look, it's fine. It's always fine. But Whispering Angel commands a premium almost entirely on brand recognition, and in a steakhouse BTG pour you're paying a steep markup on a wine that was already expensive for what's in the bottle. There are better uses of $18.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon + Aged Steak
Stag's Leap built its reputation on structured, food-friendly Cabs, and an aged cut off the mesquite grill gives it exactly the right canvas — char, fat, and protein doing the work the wine was made for.
The Bottom Line
Salt Creek Grille isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it doesn't need to be — it's a reliable steakhouse with a California-heavy list that gets the job done at a slight premium. Send a friend here if they want a comfortable, familiar bottle with a solid meal; don't send them if they're hoping for something to talk about on the drive home.

Rat's is a destination restaurant that takes its wine program seriously — 900 bottles, a sommelier on staff, and a reserve list with actual depth earn it that much.
