Wingman Metrics
Walk into Clean Slate and you're greeted by a chalkboard menu that changes faster than you can Instagram it — and that's exactly the point. This is a wine bar that takes its job seriously without taking itself seriously, which is rarer than it sounds in a town built on wine tourism. The vibe is neighborhood hang, not tasting room theater.
The entire 50-bottle list is by the glass, which is either a dream or a commitment depending on your personality — we think it's a dream. The focus is squarely on Santa Ynez Valley and small-production Santa Barbara County producers, the kind of names that don't show up on restaurant lists two counties over. Metrick and Golden represent serious Chardonnay territory here, while Leitmotif and Cnagy bring Pinot Noir credentials that locals know and visitors are about to discover. The list won't have the cellar depth of a fine dining stalwart, but it has something better: intention.
Every single wine on the list is available by the glass, full stop — no bottle-only gatekeeping, no awkward upsell. With roughly 50 options rotating through, there's genuine variety across styles, and the chalkboard format means what's on tonight may not be here next week. That kind of turnover keeps the pours fresh and the staff on their toes.
Cnagy Pinot Noir — $16
Small-production Santa Barbara Pinot at wine bar by-the-glass pricing is the whole value proposition of this place in one pour — don't overthink it.
Metrick Chardonnay
Metrick is a micro-producer doing serious work in the Santa Ynez Valley, and most people walk right past it for something they recognize. That's their loss and your gain.
Golden Chardonnay
Not a bad wine, but with Metrick on the same list at a similar price point, there's a more interesting glass a few spots over — save your pour for something with more personality.
Leitmotif Pinot Noir + Jambalaya (Cajun Night)
Cajun Night jambalaya brings heat and smoke; Leitmotif Pinot has the acidity and red fruit to cut through spice without getting bulldozed. It's a weird-on-paper, right-in-practice combo.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Clean Slate is the kind of wine bar that makes you feel like you found something — a rotating all-by-the-glass list of local small producers, fair prices, and zero pretense in a town that can get a little precious about its wine scene. Yes, send your friends here.

Cecco isn't a destination for the wine list, but it's not an afterthought either. If you're in Solvang and want a solid glass of local Sangiovese with a wood-fired pizza without overthinking it, this place has you covered.

Root 246 is the rare hotel restaurant that actually earns your wine attention — a focused Santa Barbara County list with real producers, a sommelier who knows the material, and pricing that doesn't punish you for being curious. If you're passing through Solvang wine country, this is where you eat.

Downtown Solvang · Solvang · Traditional Danish and Danish-American comfort food
Solvang Restaurant is not a wine destination, but it's not pretending to be one either — and that honesty is its best quality. If you're here for Danish pancakes and a glass of local Santa Barbara wine, you'll leave happy; just don't expect the list to keep up with the tasting rooms a few miles away.

Los Olivos · Solvang · New American, Farm-to-Table
Mattei's Tavern earns its Wild Card badge by doing something most hotel restaurants refuse to do: building a wine program that actually reflects where it is. The markup will sting, but if you're eating in Los Olivos and not drinking local Santa Barbara wine, you've made a serious lifestyle error.

The Hitching Post II is a one-of-a-kind wine experience precisely because it doesn't try to be a wine experience — it's a steakhouse that happens to make great wine and charges you fairly for it. Send your friends here, especially if they've seen Sideways and think the mystique has worn off. It hasn't.
