Walking into Chimayo, the stone hearth and buzzy bar feel like they're doing a lot of heavy lifting — and the wine list lets them. The food program clearly has a point of view; the wine program does not. It reads like someone grabbed a distributor's value catalog and called it a day.
What we can confirm is a short list anchored by California house pours and approachable blends — think Ava Grace Pinot Grigio and Silk & Spice Red Blend, which you've probably seen at your grocery store checkout line. The one standout is the Fidelity Zinfandel from Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, which at least signals someone was paying partial attention. There's no real regional depth, no Old World representation we could pin down, and zero obvious effort to complement the bold Southwestern flavors on the food menu. For a kitchen that takes its stone-fired craft seriously, the wine list feels like an afterthought.
The social hour menu shows a couple of by-the-glass options at $7–$8, which is accessible pricing for Durango but the selection is thin. Beyond the social hour window, the full glass pour roster isn't easy to find, which itself says something. If you're not walking in between 3 and 5pm, you may end up choosing between limited options with no great guidance from staff.

Anderson Valley Zinfandel is legitimately good wine country, and Fidelity is a step above the rest of what's on offer here. If it's available by the glass, grab it over anything else on this list.

Most people at a Southwestern bistro default to whatever red blend is on the menu — but the Anderson Valley Zin is the only wine here with actual terroir credibility. It's the one worth seeking out.
Ava Grace Pinot Grigio
Ava Grace is a supermarket-shelf wine retailing around $10–$12 a bottle. At restaurant prices, you're paying a steep premium for something that doesn't deserve it. Order a margarita instead.

Zinfandel's fruit-forward boldness and hint of spice holds up to char and heat from the stone hearth — it's one of those pairings that actually makes sense without anyone having to explain it to you.

Chimayo is a genuinely fun spot for food and atmosphere, but we wouldn't send anyone here specifically for the wine. Order strategically, lean on the Zinfandel if it's available, and let the kitchen do the talking.

Fired Up Pizzeria's wine list is a workhorse, not a showpiece — it gets the job done without embarrassing anyone, but it won't give you a story to tell. Order the Sasyr, eat great pizza, and save the wine nerd energy for somewhere else in Durango.

Ore House delivers a competent, Napa-centric wine list that matches the room and the menu without much ambition beyond that — the markups sting on the trophy bottles, but there are a few smart finds if you know where to look. Send a friend here for steak and the Eroica Riesling; tell them to skip the Silver Oak.

The Wine Loft at Seasons is doing more with 16 labels than a lot of places do with 60 — the Coravin access and a handful of legit producers make it worth a stop in Durango. It's not destination wine drinking, but it's a genuinely solid option when the mountain air has you ready for a good glass.

636 Main is doing more with wine than most steakhouses at this altitude and zip code, and the Italian depth alone earns respect. The markups on the California classics will sting, but navigate toward the Rhône and Italian bottles and you'll drink very well in downtown Durango.
