The wine list at Cheddar's Newport News fits on a sticky note — four bottles, all of them names you've seen at a gas station or your aunt's Thanksgiving table. To their credit, prices are low enough that you won't feel robbed, but there's nothing here that suggests anyone thought about wine for longer than five minutes.
Four wines. That's the whole program. Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio, Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cab, and Meiomi Pinot Noir — it reads like the opening shelf at a grocery store wine aisle. There's no regional curiosity, no small producer, no nod to anything outside the mainstream comfort zone. The list covers the basic four-quadrant grid of white/red and light/full and calls it a day. If you walked in hoping for a Grüner Veltliner or even a basic Malbec, you're out of luck.
Every bottle on the list is also available by the glass, which makes sense when the list is four deep. Pours run $6.49 to $10.49, which is genuinely inoffensive pricing for a casual chain. Just don't expect any rotation — what you see today is what you'll see in six months.

Cheddar's is a casual comfort-food chain, and the wine list reflects exactly that level of ambition — none. Order a beer or a cocktail and save the wine conversation for somewhere that wants to have it.
