Wingman Metrics
Vino Noir Social is doing something genuinely needed on the Virginia Peninsula — a dedicated wine bar with a fully by-the-glass list and prices that don't punish you for ordering a second pour. The menu reads approachable-first, which is either a feature or a limitation depending on what you're after. Either way, at $9–$14 for most pours, the barrier to entry is refreshingly low.
The 23-label list covers all the bases — bubbles, whites, rosé, reds, dessert, and even two non-alcoholic options — which tells you the audience here is broad and the goal is inclusion over curation. You'll find crowd-friendly names like Columbia Crest Merlot and Black Stallion Cabernet alongside more interesting picks like Terras Gauda Albariño from Rías Baixas and Banfi Rosa Regale Brachetto, a fizzy red dessert wine that most people have never tried. There's not much old-world depth to speak of, and the red selection leans heavily on recognizable West Coast and South American names. But for a social wine bar in Newport News, this list is punching in the right direction — just not particularly far.
Everything is by the glass here — literally every bottle on the list is available as a pour, which is the whole point and a genuine strength. Prices run $9 for a White Zin up to $20 for a Moët glass, with most of the interesting pours landing in the $12–$14 range. The non-alcoholic inclusions (Lunetta Starling, Seriass Sauvignon Blanc) are a smart and increasingly rare touch.
Terras Gauda Albariño — $12/glass
A serious Galician white for $12 a glass is genuinely good value. Terras Gauda is a legit producer in Rías Baixas and this wine typically retails around $18–$20 a bottle — you're not getting gouged here.
Banfi Rosa Regale Brachetto
Most people scroll past this one assuming it's just another sweet wine, but Rosa Regale is a lightly sparkling, low-alcohol red from Piedmont with strawberry and rose character that's genuinely fun. At $13 a glass, it's worth the detour — especially if you've never had Brachetto.
Moët Champagne
Twenty dollars a glass for Moët is the standard restaurant Champagne markup — nothing criminal, but it's the least interesting way to spend $20 on this list when you could double-pour the Albariño and still have change.
Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc + A charcuterie or cheese board
Stoneleigh's Marlborough Sauv Blanc brings bright citrus and herbal snap that cuts right through creamy cheeses and cured meats — it's a natural pairing for grazing, and at $10 a glass it's the easiest yes on the menu.
The Bottom Line
Vino Noir Social isn't trying to be a Burgundy deep-dive — it's trying to be a good time in Newport News, and at these prices with a fully by-the-glass list, it mostly delivers. Send a friend who's still exploring wine and wants a low-stakes, affordable night out.
· Newport News · Steakhouse / Cocktail Bar
Steak & Tonic is a genuinely surprising find for Newport News — the wine ambitions outpace most steakhouses in its weight class, even if the execution can wobble and the pricing likely skews steep. It earns the Wild Card badge because it's the kind of place you walk into expecting a cocktail and walk out talking about the wine list.

P.F. Chang's Newport News is not a wine destination — it's a chain restaurant with a corporate wine list designed to sell recognizable labels at comfortable margins. Come for the Lettuce Wraps and the Wednesday half-price bottles if you must, but don't come expecting anything interesting in the glass.

Logan's Roadhouse is a beer-and-bourbon operation that happens to list six wines as an afterthought — and it shows. Order the steak, order the ribs, order a cold draft; just don't come here expecting the wine list to do any heavy lifting.

LongHorn Newport News isn't a wine destination — it's a steakhouse where wine is an afterthought, priced to extract margin rather than reward curiosity. Order the ribeye, pick the least-bad bottle, and don't expect anyone at the table to talk about what's in the glass.
