The wine list at Cesare's reads like a well-worn Italian-American playbook — and that's not necessarily a knock. Fifty-seven labels, a clear lean toward Italian regions, and prices that won't send you into cardiac arrest before the entrée arrives. For a beachside trattoria in Clearwater, this is a better list than you'd expect and a worse list than you'd hope for.
Italy leads the charge here, which makes sense given the concept, and there's genuine effort to pull from multiple Italian regions rather than just stacking Chianti and calling it a day. California and Oregon round out the bottle list, lending some familiar ground for guests who blank at anything without a recognizable grape on the label. The gaps show up in depth — you won't find a serious Barolo, an aged Brunello, or anything that makes a wine-focused diner sit up straight. What's here is honest, food-friendly, and reasonably priced across a $30–$60 range.
Twelve options by the glass covers the bases without breaking new ground — think Prosecco and Moscato on the sparkling end, a Chianti and Montepulciano holding it down for reds, and a Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc for the white wine crowd. At $8–$14 a glass, you're not getting gouged, which earns real credit in a tourist-heavy beach corridor where restaurants routinely treat pour prices like beachfront real estate. The Montepulciano by the glass is the most interesting call on the list.
Montepulciano (by the bottle) — $30–$40
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo bottles at this price point typically punch above their weight — grippy, rustic, and built for pasta. At Cesare's price floor, it's the best dollars-to-flavor ratio on a list where most bottles stay sensibly priced anyway.
Montepulciano (by the glass)
Most tables at a beachside Italian spot default to Pinot Grigio or Cab, so the Montepulciano pour gets ignored. It shouldn't — it's the most distinctly Italian option on the glass list and the kind of earthy, medium-bodied red that was made to sit next to a plate of pasta.
Pink Zinfandel (by the glass)
In 2024, a by-the-glass Rosé slot occupied by Pink Zinfandel is a missed opportunity. It's not offensive, but there's no reason to order it when the Prosecco, Montepulciano, or even the Riesling offer more interesting drinking for the same $8–$14 ask.
Chianti (by the glass) + Veal Parmesan
Chianti and a breaded veal cutlet swimming in tomato sauce is one of the more honest, time-tested combinations in Italian-American dining. The acidity cuts the richness of the cheese, the red fruit plays off the tomato, and suddenly you're not at a beach tourist trap — you're at a trattoria.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Cesare's isn't building a wine destination, but it's doing right by its guests — fair prices, Italian-leaning options that match the food, and a list that doesn't embarrass itself. Send a friend here for dinner; just tell them to order the Montepulciano.

The Capital Grille is a reliable machine — the wine program is competent, well-staffed, and properly executed, but the markups are steep and the list plays it extremely safe. Send a friend here for a business dinner, but tell them to order Jordan before anyone at the table reaches for the Opus One.

Fleming's is a reliable machine — excellent execution, real wine depth by-the-glass, staff that knows the list, and no surprises in a bad way. Just don't expect discovery; expect comfort, and budget accordingly for markup.

Guppy's won't win any awards for adventurous curation, but the list is fairly priced, thoughtfully stocked for a seafood crowd, and broad enough that everyone at the table finds something. Send a friend here for the grouper and tell them to drink the Cloudy Bay.

E&E Stakeout Grill is a perfectly decent neighborhood steakhouse wine list that asks too much on most nights — but Wine Wednesday flips the math entirely and makes this one of the better value plays in the Clearwater area. Come on a Wednesday, order the Chianti Classico, and you'll have zero complaints.

Clearwater Beach · Clearwater · Mediterranean and Mexican-inspired wine bar and bistro
This is the best wine program you're likely to find within walking distance of Clearwater Beach, and that's not faint praise — it's a genuine destination for the wine-curious crowd that usually has to settle for whatever's on draft. Wednesday's half-price U.S. bottle deal seals it: show up, order spaghetti, drink better than you planned.
