You're 14 miles down a canyon road flanked by red rock walls and the Colorado River, and somehow there's a winery. The tasting room at Red Cliffs Lodge leans into its setting hard — this isn't a wine bar playing dress-up, it's a working Utah estate pouring its own bottles in the middle of the desert. Expectations adjust accordingly, and that's actually a good thing.
The list is tight — 10 to 15 Castle Creek labels, all estate-grown and bottled in Moab. You won't find a Burgundy lurking in the back pages, and that's fine; the whole point here is drinking something made from vines that survive Utah sun at canyon altitude. The Outlaw Red and Monument Red handle the red side of things with blends that lean approachable over complex, while the White Rim White shows the estate can produce something fresher and more interesting than you'd expect from high-desert viticulture. Gaps exist — no sparkling, no rosé in evidence, no outside producers for context — but within its lane, the list is coherent.
Six to eight pours available by the glass, priced between $9 and $12, which is honest money for a winery tasting room in a national park-adjacent resort setting. The flight format is the real move here — it's the fastest way to understand what Castle Creek is actually doing across the lineup. Rotation appears minimal; this is a set list tied to current production.
Castle Creek White Rim White — $9
At the low end of the glass price range, this is the most interesting drink on the list — a white wine from a Utah desert winery that actually earns its existence. Worth the pour just to say you did it, and it delivers.
Castle Creek Monument Red
Everyone reaches for the Outlaw Red because the name sells itself, but the Monument Red is the more composed bottle. It's the one that suggests Castle Creek is paying attention to what ends up in the blend.
Castle Creek Cabernet Sauvignon
Varietal Cabernet from a high-desert Utah estate is a tough ask, and it shows. At this price point you can do better within the same list by going to the blends, which play to the estate's actual strengths.
Castle Creek Outlaw Red + Steak and BBQ plate at Red Cliffs Lodge
The Outlaw Red is built for exactly this — a crowd-friendly Western red with enough fruit and structure to stand up to charred meat without demanding your full attention. It fits the setting and the meal without overthinking either.

Castle Creek is a genuine Utah estate winery in one of the most visually arresting settings you'll ever drink in, and the wines are better than the novelty factor requires them to be. We wouldn't drive to Moab for the Cabernet, but if you're already there, skipping the tasting room would be the wrong call.
