The wine list at Sorrel River Ranch's bar and lounge feels exactly like what it is: a luxury resort property on the Colorado River that wants you comfortable, not challenged. You're not here to geek out — you're here because the view is stunning and a glass of something familiar sounds perfect after a day on the trails.
The list runs 40-60 labels deep, leaning heavily on California with a nod to the Pacific Northwest and France. The producers are recognizable to the point of being predictable — Caymus, Rombauer, Jordan, Meiomi, Whispering Angel. These are names that sell themselves in hotel bars because nobody argues with them. There's no adventurous detour into Rhône varieties or domestic Grenache, no small-production producers tucked in to reward the curious. It's a list built to move bottles, not spark conversation.
Eight to fourteen options by the glass gives you enough to work with, and the price range of $14–$28 is reasonable for a resort setting — though it nudges toward steep when you do the bottle math. Don't expect seasonal rotation or a chalkboard special; what you see is what you get, week after week.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $55 (bottle)
Jordan consistently punches above its price point with Sonoma refinement and structure. On a list where bottles climb to $200, landing Jordan near the floor makes it the most intelligent pour for the money.
Whispering Angel Rosé
Yes, it's everywhere. But at a desert ranch with canyon views and outdoor seating, a chilled glass of Whispering Angel is the right call in a way it isn't in most urban restaurants. The context makes it sing in a way the label alone never does.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is a $40 retail bottle showing up on resort lists at multiples of that. The wine has coasted on its reputation for years, and you're paying a premium here for the name recognition alone. Jordan is the better Cab on this list at a fraction of the markup anxiety.
Rombauer Chardonnay + Grilled salmon or river trout (River Grill)
Rombauer's buttery, oak-forward style is practically engineered for rich fish preparations. It's not subtle, but neither is the Colorado River backdrop — sometimes matching the energy is the right move.

Spitfire is a BBQ bar that treats wine as an afterthought in almost every way — except the pricing and the quiet inclusion of two local Utah pours that no one saw coming. Come for the ribs and a cold beer, but if you want wine, the Trapiche Malbec at $7 a glass is an honest steal and the Spanish Valley bottles are worth the curiosity.

Castle Creek is a genuine Utah estate winery in one of the most visually arresting settings you'll ever drink in, and the wines are better than the novelty factor requires them to be. We wouldn't drive to Moab for the Cabernet, but if you're already there, skipping the tasting room would be the wrong call.
