Walk into Buona Tavola and the wine list feels like it belongs here — white tablecloths, warm light, and a list that splits its time between the vineyards just down the road and the hills of Piedmont and Tuscany. It's a considered list, not an afterthought. For a downtown Paso spot doing Northern Italian, this is exactly the energy you want.
The list runs 100–150 bottles and earns its keep by doing two things at once: celebrating Paso Robles locals like Eberle, Justin, and Tablas Creek alongside Old World Italian producers from Piedmont and Tuscany. That dual identity gives the list real personality — you can go full wine-country with a Rhône-style blend from Tablas Creek or lean into the food with something from Barolo country. The Central Coast representation is strong and makes sense given the address. The Italian side could go deeper — we'd love to see more small-producer Langhe or Brunello representation — but what's here is honest and food-forward.
Ten to fifteen pours by the glass is a respectable program for a trattoria at this price point, and the range appears to cover both local Paso bottles and at least a nod to Italian varietals. We'd like to see the glass list rotate more aggressively with the seasons, but for a weeknight dinner with osso buco on the table, you're not going home empty-handed.
Tablas Creek Vineyard Patelin de Tablas Blanc — $48
Tablas Creek is doing some of the most serious Rhône-style work in California, and their entry-level whites routinely outperform their price tags. On a list that charges fairly, this is the bottle that makes your dinner feel like a steal.
Eberle Winery Cabernet Sauvignon
Eberle is Paso Robles royalty that somehow still flies under the radar for people who only know Justin. Gary Eberle essentially put this AVA on the map, and his Cabernet is structured enough to stand up to braised meats without overwhelming the table. Most guests walk past it for something flashier — don't be that guest.
Justin Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Justin is fine — genuinely fine — but it's also on every wine list, every hotel minibar, and every grocery store shelf in Central California. At restaurant markup, you're paying a premium for a label you already know. The list has more interesting options at similar or lower prices.
Tablas Creek Vineyard Esprit de Tablas Rouge + Osso buco
Tablas Creek's Esprit de Tablas Rouge is a Grenache-Mourvèdre-Syrah blend with enough dark fruit and earthy grip to go head-to-head with braised veal shank. The wine's herbal notes mirror the gremolata, and the acidity cuts through the richness of the bone marrow. This is the pairing the list was built for.

Buona Tavola is a genuinely good restaurant wine list in a town surrounded by great wine — it respects the local terroir, prices fairly, and makes smart Italian connections on the menu. Send your friends here and tell them to skip the Justin.
