Wingman Metrics
The list at Bodega SF is short — 26 labels — but it reads like a dispatch from somewhere more interesting than your average wine bar. Sumoll from Spain, Kalecik Karası rosé from Turkey, Torrontés from Argentina's high-altitude vineyards: this is not a list built for people who want another Sonoma Pinot. It's built for people who want to be surprised.
The range leans heavily into obscure grapes and under-the-radar regions, and it mostly lands. You've got 100% Xarel·lo from MontRubi sitting next to a Grenache Blanc from Mabre and an Alvarinho from Quinta do Regueiro — solid, legitimate producers doing interesting things. The red side mirrors that spirit: Lo-Fi's Cab Franc, a MontRubi Durona, and the One Night Stand Sumoll give you real options beyond the standard fruit-bomb lineup. Gaps? Sure — there's no real Burgundy presence and the bottle count stays modest — but the intentionality here more than compensates. This feels curated, not lazy.
With 25 of 26 bottles available by the glass, Bodega SF is essentially running its entire list as a by-the-glass program — and at $8–$15 a pour, that's a genuinely good deal for what's in those bottles. That kind of access lets you taste your way through Turkish rosé and Argentine Torrontés without committing to a full bottle, which is exactly the point of a place like this.
Quinta do Regueiro Alvarinho — $47
Alvarinho — the Portuguese expression of Albariño — at $47 a bottle is a legitimate steal. Clean, coastal, and food-friendly, this is the kind of wine that costs twice as much at a sit-down restaurant with a proper dining room. The price-to-quality ratio here is hard to argue with.
One Night Stand 100% Sumoll
Most people have never heard of Sumoll, a red grape native to Catalonia that produces light, savory, almost Gamay-like wines. This one is at $53 and most guests will walk right past it. Don't. It's the kind of bottle that starts conversations and makes you look like you know something the rest of the table doesn't.
Aleph Cabernet
At $65, the Aleph Cabernet is the most expensive red on the list — and in a lineup this focused on obscure, expressive grapes, a straight Cab feels like a concession to guests who won't take risks. Nothing wrong with it, but you're not here for the expected. Spend the same money on the Lo-Fi Cab Franc and actually enjoy yourself.
6,962 Torrontés + Cheese board selection
Torrontés runs aromatic and crisp with a floral lift that cuts through rich, fatty cheeses without overwhelming them. At $49 a bottle, it's an easy yes for a cheese-forward spread, and it's the kind pairing that feels effortless without requiring any explanation.
The Bottom Line
Bodega SF is what happens when someone actually gives a damn about the list instead of just checking a box. Twenty-six bottles, almost all pourable by the glass, priced fairly, and built around grapes most wine bars wouldn't dare touch — send your adventurous friends here and tell them to skip the safe picks.

Fig & Thistle is for people who trust a short menu built by someone with a point of view — thirteen bottles, all pouring, all worth talking about. If you need a fallback Cab or a recognizable label to feel safe, this isn't your spot. If you don't, this absolutely is.

San Francisco · San Francisco · Steakhouse
STK San Francisco has the bones of a wine program and the ambition of a hotel minibar. With only three by-the-glass pours, a list built entirely around safe brand names, and steep markups baked into the concept, this is a place to order a cocktail or splurge on a specific bottle you already know you want.

Mission District · San Francisco · Natural Wine Bar
Bar Part Time is the rare wine bar that pulls off genuinely fun without dumbing down the wine program — Tuesday's $10-off-bottles deal makes it even harder to say no. Send your friend who thinks they don't like natural wine; they'll leave converted.

Nob Hill · San Francisco · Italian
Seven Hills is doing something most Italian restaurants in this city won't — building a wine list that actually reflects the breadth of Italian winemaking rather than the highlights reel. If you're even mildly curious about obscure Italian whites, this is one of the better places in SF to take the leap.

Red or White is doing something genuinely unusual for Mobile: serious American wine at retail-adjacent prices in a state not exactly famous for its wine culture. The list is narrow in its ambitions — if you want Old World depth, look elsewhere — but within its lane, it punches well above what you'd expect from coastal Alabama.

Gig Harbor Wine Co. is a one-brand wine bar that somehow doesn't feel like a vanity project — the range is thoughtful, the prices are honest, and the whole setup rewards locals who want to drink well without the markup theater. If you're open to going all-in on a single producer for a night, this is a genuinely fun place to do it.

Tacoma Wine Merchants is doing something quietly remarkable: a bottle shop and enoteca with Bartolo Mascarello on the shelf and a $17 Rosso Conero next to it, all priced like they actually want to move wine. If you're anywhere near Tacoma, this is worth a detour.
