First Impression
The wine list at Blue Moose reads exactly like you'd expect from a Brookside bar and grill — recognizable labels, nothing risky, nothing remarkable. But before you roll your eyes, check the prices, because they're genuinely hard to argue with. This is a place that knows its crowd and doesn't try to be something it isn't.
Selection Deep Dive
The list leans heavily on California and Washington workhorses, with a few Italian names rounding things out. You'll find Coppola Diamond and Meomi Pinot Noir flying the California flag, Chateau Ste Michelle representing Washington, and J Vineyards Pinot Gris adding a touch of Oregon. Don't come looking for Burgundy or anything that requires a flashlight to find on a map — the gaps in adventurous, old-world selections are real. What you do get is a tight, predictable roster that most tables will recognize and order without hesitation.
By the Glass
Ten-plus pours by the glass is solid for a neighborhood grill, and the price ceiling of $14 means you're not getting gouged for something casual mid-week. The selection mirrors the bottle list — crowd-friendly and approachable — but the sheer volume of glass options means most people at the table will find something that works.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough — $12.50
Retails around $15, so you're basically paying restaurant prices for a wine you'd happily grab off a grocery shelf. That's a rare thing when eating out, and Kim Crawford's Marlborough Sauv Blanc is clean, crisp, and genuinely food-friendly.
J Vineyards Pinot Gris
Most people at a bar and grill are reaching for the Chardonnay or Pinot Noir by habit. J Vineyards makes a Pinot Gris that has more texture and interest than the usual suspects on a list like this — it's the sleeper pick that consistently punches above its surroundings.
Meomi Pinot Noir
Meomi is everywhere, costs almost nothing at retail, and the sweetness that made it a hit a decade ago is starting to feel like a trap. At a place with Coppola Diamond on the same list, there's no reason to default to Meomi.
Chateau Ste Michelle Harvest Select Riesling + Pub appetizers
The Harvest Select has a touch of residual sweetness that acts like a fire extinguisher against salty, fried pub bites. It's the kind of pairing that doesn't require a wine education to enjoy — it just works.
Thursday — Wine Lover's Day — 25% off any regularly priced bottle of wine, or $15 select bottles including Crane Lake Riesling, Anterra Pinot Grigio, and Hess Shirttail Chardonnay.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Blue Moose isn't trying to win any wine awards and it doesn't need to — the markup is shockingly fair for a neighborhood spot, and Thursday's Wine Lover's promotion makes it an easy call for a casual weeknight out. Send your friends here if they want a decent glass without the pretense.
