Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Black Marlin arrives the same way the restaurant does — unpretentious, beachy, built for people who want a cold glass of something while watching boats drift by. Twenty-seven labels isn't a lot, but it's not embarrassing either. This is a list designed to move volume, not start conversations.
The list leans heavily on California with familiar faces like Cakebread Chardonnay and Beringer Knights Valley Cab anchoring the upper end. There's a nod to France via a Bouvet Loire sparkler and a Les Glories Sancerre, and New Zealand gets a seat at the table with Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc — a genuinely good pick for a waterfront seafood spot. The Italian representation is mostly Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio territory, which tells you everything about who the target audience is. Pinot Noir fans get two solid options in Alexis George from Russian River and ROCO out of Willamette Valley, which is a welcome surprise on a list this size.
Eighteen by-the-glass options on a 27-bottle list is a strong ratio — almost everything is available by the pour, which is the right move for a marina crowd that wants flexibility. Glass prices run $7 to $10.50, which is reasonable for a resort market like Hilton Head. There's no indication the pours rotate much, so what you see is what you get all season long.
ROCO Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley — null
ROCO is a legit Oregon producer that punches above its weight — finding it on a casual seafood list in Hilton Head is unexpected, and it's the kind of wine that makes you linger over the last pour.
Les Glories Sancerre, France
Most people at a marina bar are ordering Chardonnay on autopilot. The Sancerre is right there waiting — crisp, mineral-driven Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc that's purpose-built for fresh seafood and salt air. Order it.
Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay, Napa
At $80 a bottle, you're paying full tourist markup on a wine that retails around $35-40. It's a perfectly fine Chardonnay, but the value math doesn't work when the Les Glories Sancerre is sitting right next to it.
Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough + Flounder
Craggy Range brings bright citrus and grassy snap that cuts through delicate white fish without bullying it. Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and fresh flounder is a coastal no-brainer — this is the move.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Black Marlin is a reliable waterfront pour — nothing on this list is going to blow your mind, but the Sancerre and the ROCO Pinot make it worth ordering a bottle instead of sticking to beer. Just steer clear of the Cakebread unless someone else is buying.
Shelter Cove · Hilton Head Island · Seafood / New American
Sea Salt isn't trying to win a wine list award and it shows, but it's not trying to rip you off on selection either — just on price. If you're already there for the scallops and the view, the wine list will serve you fine; just set your expectations to vacation mode and not discovery mode.

Harbour Town / Sea Pines · Hilton Head Island · Resort / American
The Harbour Town Clubhouse wine list is exactly what it needs to be for its audience — familiar, functional, and unlikely to offend anyone in a golf shirt. Just know going in that you're paying resort prices for resort selections, and calibrate your expectations accordingly.

Reilley's is a reliable beach-town bar that happens to have wine — not a wine destination that happens to serve food. Hit it during happy hour for half-off house pours, order the Rosé with your crab cakes, and keep your expectations calibrated to the vibe.

Redfish is the kind of wine list that works better than it should for a coastal tourist spot — 400 bottles is nothing to dismiss, even if the selection leans on crowd-pleasing California names and the pricing reflects the zip code. Go in knowing what you want, order the Riesling by the glass, and you'll have a fine night.

The Pearl is a solid, well-dressed list that serves its upscale coastal crowd without rocking any boats. Bring a group, let someone order the Miraval, and don't let the Silver Oak get near your credit card.

Il Carpaccio is a reliable dinner option for Hilton Head visitors who want a glass of something recognizable without overthinking it — but anyone hoping to find Italy on the wine list will come up short. Drink the bubbles, enjoy the pasta, and don't expect the list to challenge you.
