Beer House, Wine Afterthought

The wine list at BJ's Corpus Christi is exactly what you'd expect from a chain brewhouse that made its name on craft beer and deep dish pizza — an afterthought dressed up in laminate. You're surrounded by TVs, sports fans, and a beer menu that goes three pages deep, while the wine section barely clears a paragraph.
The lineup reads like the grocery store wine aisle had a meeting and decided not to try very hard: Dark Horse Cab, Apothic Red, Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio, Hess Select Chardonnay. These are nationally distributed, mass-produced brands chosen for name recognition, not quality or regional character. There's no Old World representation worth noting, no independent producers, and zero sense that anyone curated this list with intention. If you're hoping for something that surprises you, you're in the wrong building.
Glass pour options aren't published clearly, but the bottle lineup strongly suggests the same crowd-pleaser brands make up the BTG program. BJ's does run a half-price wine promotion one night per week — reportedly Tuesday, though you should call the Corpus Christi location to confirm the day and whether it applies to glasses, bottles, or both. That discount is the single best reason to order wine here.
Meiomi Pinot Noir, California — $25
At $25 a bottle — roughly $16 at retail — this is the least painful markup on the list. Meiomi is soft, approachable, and crowd-friendly enough to work with half the menu. Not exciting, but it's the closest thing to a reasonable deal BJ's offers on wine.
La Crema Chardonnay, Monterey County
Most people ordering Chardonnay here will default to Dark Horse out of habit, but La Crema is a legitimate step up — more restrained oak, better fruit definition, actually made with some care. It's still a chain-list pick, but relative to everything else on this list, it's the one that earns its place.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
At $25 a bottle on a takeout/delivery list, you're paying almost double retail ($13) for a wine that's ubiquitous everywhere and costs nothing to find. Kim Crawford is fine, but there's zero reason to pay a 92% markup on it here when you can grab it at H-E-B on the way home.
La Crema Chardonnay, Monterey County + Deep Dish Pizza with chicken and garlic
The Monterey Chardonnay has enough body and mild oak to hold up to a buttery, cheese-heavy deep dish without getting lost, and it won't clash with the garlic the way a bolder red might. It's an imperfect pairing on paper, but it's the best this list has to offer for BJ's signature dish.
Tuesday — BJ's national promotions list Tuesday as a half-off wine night (glasses and/or bottles — varies). A Wednesday half-off wine promo has also appeared in corporate social posts. Call the Corpus Christi location at 7602 S Padre Island Dr to confirm the exact day and what's included before making it a destination.
❌ The Bottom Line
BJ's is a beer destination that tolerates wine — the list is short, the producers are uninspired, and the markups are chain-restaurant standard. If it's Tuesday (call first), the half-price deal makes it tolerable; otherwise, order the craft beer and save the wine for somewhere that actually cares.
Padre Island · Corpus Christi · Italian
Island Italian isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — it's a no-fuss neighborhood spot where $15 gets you a half carafe of Chianti and a plate of comfort food near the water. Send your friends here when the vibe matters more than the label.

Blu is a genuinely nice place to eat, and the waterfront atmosphere earns its keep — but the wine list is essentially on autopilot. Send a friend here for the Gulf redfish and a glass of Meiomi at sunset, not for the wine list itself.

Harrison's Landing is a genuinely fun place to drink — just don't make wine the reason you're there. Order a cold house Chardonnay at happy hour, watch the boats, and save your wine ambitions for a different night.

YOLA is a genuinely good time — the margaritas are clearly the star and they deserve to be. But if wine is part of your dinner plan, you're better off ordering another round of cocktails and saving the bottle for somewhere that actually cares.

Pier 99 is a great place to drink a cold beer and watch the water — and that is genuinely our recommendation. The wine list is a placeholder, not a program, and no one on staff is going to steer you anywhere interesting. Order the cocktails, order the beer, save the wine conversation for somewhere that's having it.

Doc's wine list is built for people who want a cold glass of something familiar while watching the sun drop into the bay, and for that exact scenario, it delivers. Don't come here chasing a unicorn bottle — come here for the shrimp, grab the J. Lohr, and enjoy the view.

Catablu is exactly what it needs to be for its neighborhood — a reliable, thoughtfully maintained list that won't embarrass you on a date night or bore you entirely. It's not a destination wine list, but it's a solid supporting act for a kitchen that clearly takes food seriously.

BJ's is a fine place to drink a craft beer and eat a Pizookie. It is not a place to drink wine. Order a Brewhouse Blonde, skip the wine list entirely, and save your wine night for somewhere that cares.

The Cheesecake Factory is a perfectly fine place to eat — the wine list just isn't a reason to go. Order a cocktail, split a bottle of Santa Margherita if you must, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that earned it.
