Fort Wayne's Steak Night Deserves a Better Bottle

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at BakerStreet reads exactly how you'd expect a well-heeled Midwest steakhouse to read — familiar names, safe bets, nothing that's going to surprise you or offend you. It's the vinous equivalent of a well-pressed dress shirt: appropriate for the occasion, not exactly memorable. That said, the range of by-the-glass options and the availability of half-bottles show that someone here is at least thinking about the wine drinker.
The list runs 75 to 150 labels, which is respectable for Fort Wayne, but the emphasis is squarely on California cult classics and crowd-favorite brands rather than anything that would raise an eyebrow at a wine dinner. Caymus, Jordan, Meiomi, Rombauer — these are the names doing the heavy lifting, and they're fine wines, but they're also exactly what you'd find at every upscale chain steakhouse from here to Phoenix. The Mediterranean-focused tasting pairings hint at some broader ambition, and we'd love to see that curiosity applied to the broader list. Right now, the list is playing it very, very safe.
Ten to eighteen pours by the glass is a solid spread for a steakhouse, and the $10–$20 range keeps things accessible without bottoming out on quality. The presence of half-bottles is a genuine win for couples who want variety without committing to two full bottles. We'd like to see more rotation — the glass program feels like it's been set and left alone for a while.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $45–$60 (bottle estimate)
Jordan consistently punches above its price class — structured, age-worthy, and made from Alexander Valley fruit that genuinely complements red meat. If BakerStreet has it at the lower end of their bottle range, it's the move.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
Most serious wine drinkers turn their nose up at Meiomi, but at a steakhouse where your tablemate ordered the salmon and you're not trying to argue over a bottle, this is the peacekeeping pour. Fruit-forward, crowd-friendly, and lower stakes than another glass of Cab.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is everywhere, and steakhouses know they can charge a premium because the name is recognizable. At BakerStreet's likely markup, you're paying a significant restaurant premium for a wine that retails widely — the Jordan will almost certainly drink just as well for less on this list.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon + Filet Mignon
Jordan's cassis-forward fruit and measured tannins don't bully a filet the way a bigger Napa Cab can — it lets the beef speak while still holding its own across the table.
✔️ The Bottom Line
BakerStreet is a solid steakhouse wine list that does exactly what it promises: familiar bottles, fair enough range, nothing adventurous. If you're in Fort Wayne and want a proper glass with a proper steak, this works — just don't come expecting to be surprised.
Downtown-adjacent / Near West · Fort Wayne · Italian market and deli
Antonuccio's isn't a restaurant wine program — it's something more interesting: a genuine Italian market where you can eat well and leave with better bottles than most Fort Wayne restaurants will ever pour you. Come for lunch, leave with a Chianti, zero regrets.

Northwest (Jefferson Pointe / Illinois Rd corridor) · Fort Wayne · Upscale American Steakhouse
Eddie Merlot's Fort Wayne is a reliably well-run steakhouse wine program — proper storage, real glassware, a sommelier on the floor, and enough pours by the glass to satisfy a full table. The list won't challenge you, and the markups will sting, but if you want a classic California Cab with your prime beef and you want it done right, this place delivers.

Jefferson Pointe · Fort Wayne · American – Gourmet Burgers & Pub Fare
BRU Burger Bar is genuinely great at what it does — burgers, fries, a cold beer. The wine list exists as an afterthought for guests who don't drink beer, and it should be treated accordingly. Order a craft draft, save the wine for somewhere that cares.

Nawa is a fine place to eat; the wine list won't embarrass anyone, but it won't excite them either. Grab the Amarone or the Broquel Malbec, ignore the celebrity bottles, and let the food do the heavy lifting.

Henry's is a bar that happens to take its wine list seriously enough to matter, and the Wednesday half-price deal is the kind of thing you should have already texted your friends about. Don't overthink it — show up, order the Belleruche, and feel good about your Wednesday.

Vinland Reserve is the rare Indiana winery that earns a second look — barrel-aged hybrids, honest Bordeaux imports, and some of the most approachable pricing in the region. Wine Wednesday alone makes this worth adding to the rotation.

Ruth's Chris Sacramento is a reliable steakhouse with an unreliable wine value proposition — the food earns its reputation, but the list exists to maximize check averages, not drinking pleasure. Come for the filet, skip the $210 Caymus, and order accordingly.
