Solid pours for a solid sushi night

The wine list at Baba Sushi does exactly what a neighborhood sushi bar's wine list should do — it shows up, stays out of the way, and doesn't embarrass anyone. It's not trying to be a wine destination, and that's fine. What you get is a manageable, familiar lineup that won't intimidate anyone and won't thrill anyone either.
The list runs about 20–35 labels and leans heavily on crowd-friendly California names — Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, Josh Black Cabernet, Murphy Goode Pinot Noir — the kind of bottles you'd recognize at a grocery store. There's a bit of international reach with Oyster Bay and Yealand's from Marlborough, Bex Riesling out of Nahe, and Dilemma Vinho Verde, which are actually solid calls for sushi. A couple of bubbles round things out — Prima Perla Prosecco and the more serious Canard-Duchene Brut — giving you options for a celebratory omakase moment. The gaps are real though: no sake-forward pairings highlighted, no natural wines, nothing from Burgundy or Alsace that would actually sing alongside raw fish.
With an estimated 12–16 pours by the glass in the $8–$14 range, Baba Sushi gives you enough options to drink your way through a meal without committing to a bottle. The whites dominate and that's the right call for the menu — Sauvignon Blanc and Vinho Verde are your friends here. Don't expect the list to rotate much; this reads as a set-it-and-forget-it program.
Dilemma Vinho Verde Branco — $8–$10/glass
Vinho Verde and sushi is one of the most underrated pairings in casual dining — bright acidity, low alcohol, and a slight spritz that cuts through rich rolls and sashimi alike. At neighborhood sushi bar pricing, this is the move.
Bex Riesling
Most people at a sushi bar are reaching for Sauv Blanc or ordering sake, which means the Bex Riesling from Nahe is sitting there quietly being the best option on the list. Off-dry German Riesling with delicate sweetness and piercing acidity is practically made for nigiri and spicy tuna rolls. Order it before someone else figures it out.
Josh Black Cabernet
Cab and sushi is a tough ask on its own, but Josh Black Cabernet specifically is a wine that punches below its price point everywhere it appears. Heavy fruit, soft tannins, zero complexity — it's fine for a backyard barbecue, but it has no business being ordered at a sushi bar.
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc + Sashimi platter
Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is practically engineered for clean raw fish — the bright citrus and grassy herbaceousness act like a squeeze of lemon over the sashimi, lifting each piece rather than fighting it. Oyster Bay is the approachable entry point that converts even the skeptics.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Baba Sushi's wine list won't change your life, but it'll get you through a great sushi dinner without making a wrong turn — especially if you stick to the whites and bubbles. Send a friend here for the food; the wine just needs to stay out of the way, and mostly it does.

Willy's delivers a competent, crowd-friendly wine list that matches its supper-club DNA — no one's going home disappointed, but no one's going home inspired either. If you're in Worcester and want a solid glass with a prime steak, it does the job; just don't come here for the wine list.

The Fix earns its reputation on the burger side of the menu — the wine list is just not part of that story. Come for the food, order the beer, and save the bottle for another night.

111 Chop House Bar is doing exactly what it set out to do — give Worcester a place to order trophy Napa bottles alongside a prime cut. The markups sting and the list won't surprise anyone, but if you know what you're looking for, you'll find it.

Dino's isn't a wine destination — it's a red-sauce neighborhood classic that happens to have an unexpectedly serious Port program tucked at the back of the menu. Come for the Chicken Parm, stay for the Taylor Fladgate.

Vejigante isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — and for a vibrant Puerto Rican restaurant in downtown Worcester, the list is more thoughtful than you'd expect. Grab the Riesling, enjoy the mofongo, and don't overthink it.
