Wingman Metrics
Walking into a converted 1916 bank building in downtown Napa sets expectations high, and the wine list mostly keeps pace — a multi-page spread that splits its loyalties between local Napa and Sonoma producers and a respectable Italian section. It feels like the right list for the room: ambitious enough for a special occasion, not so precious that you feel judged for ordering the second-cheapest bottle.
The list leans hard into Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, which makes sense given the zip code, with producers like Pride showing up alongside the expected roster of local names. Sonoma gets a seat at the table too, with Schug's 2019 Carneros Pinot Noir adding some elegance to the red column. The Italian section — drawing from Tuscany and Piedmont — earns genuine credit; it's the kind of nod to the kitchen's roots that most California-Italian spots don't bother with. Gaps exist: the list doesn't go deep on any single region, and adventurous drinkers looking for Barolo or Brunello depth may come up short.
The glass program runs roughly 14-20 options across reds, whites, sparkling, and possibly rosé, priced $12-$20 — reasonable for Napa, where you can easily pay that just for the ambiance tax. Frank Family Chardonnay has been spotted by the glass, which is a crowd-pleaser that actually deserves its popularity. The rotation doesn't appear to change much, so don't expect a lot of seasonal surprises.
Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma — $48
At roughly 85% over retail, it's the least egregious markup on the list and Rombauer's Sauvignon Blanc genuinely over-delivers — bright, textured, and versatile enough to anchor a whole meal of pasta and seafood.
Schug Pinot Noir 2019, Carneros, Napa Valley
Everyone at the table is eyeing the Cabernet column, and Schug quietly sits there being better than it gets credit for. Carneros Pinot at a proper Italian dinner is an underrated move — lighter on its feet than a Napa Cab and a much better match for anything with cream or tomato.
Valdo Prosecco Brut Valdobbiadene DOC NV
A $14 retail bottle sitting at $40 on the list is a 186% markup — that's a lot to pay for a pre-dinner bubble that you can grab at any wine shop for the price of a tip. Order a cocktail to start and save the money for something that earns its price.
Robert Biale 'Black Chicken' Zinfandel 2023, Napa Valley + Marinated & Grilled New York Steak in Gorgonzola Sauce
Black Chicken Zin brings enough dark fruit and spice to stand up to the char on that steak, while its earthy backbone keeps the gorgonzola from overwhelming everything. It's the kind of pairing that feels obvious in retrospect but almost nobody orders.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Ristorante Allegria is a solid, honest wine destination for a downtown Napa dinner — not a list that'll make you gasp, but one that respects the room and the food. Watch the markups on the commodity bottles and lean toward the producers that actually earned their spots on the list.

TRUSS is a competent, well-staffed wine program that plays to its audience and its address — if you're here for deep cuts or value hunting, lower your expectations and enjoy the views. But if you want a reliable, properly stored Napa-focused list with real sommelier guidance and a solid glass pour selection, this is exactly what it's supposed to be.

Ad Hoc's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a Thomas Keller casual concept: well-curated, California-centric, and priced for people who didn't blink at the reservation. It won't blow your mind, but it'll hold its own against the fried chicken.

The CIA at Copia is the rare Napa restaurant where the wine list isn't trying to take your wallet hostage. If you're in downtown Napa and want serious producers at prices that don't require a second mortgage, this is the move.

Lucy is a well-run hotel wine program that takes itself seriously — proper glassware, a sommelier who shows up, and a California list with genuine depth. The markups are Napa-level steep, but you're in Yountville; nobody's coming here expecting Brooklyn prices.

Torc earns its place at the top of Downtown Napa's wine scene — deep list, smart producers, a sommelier who presumably earned the title. Bring your appetite and a card that can handle a Napa markup, because the wine here is worth the conversation.

Hog Island isn't a wine destination, but it's a genuinely thoughtful pour for what it is — a lively counter where the shellfish runs the show and the wine list is smart enough to get out of the way and still surprise you. Send your friends here for a glass of Schramsberg and a dozen oysters and they will not be mad at you.
