You're in Pioneer Park, surrounded by sled dogs and gold rush history, and the wine list feels like it was ordered from a distributor catalog on a Friday afternoon. Fifteen labels, almost entirely California supermarket staples, zero surprises. The setting is doing the heavy lifting here — the wine list is just along for the ride.
The list breaks into three sections — whites, reds, and an 'Alaskan/Sparkling/Other' category that sounds more exciting than it is. California dominates completely, with Freakshow, Black Stallion, and J Lohr showing up in both Chardonnay and Cabernet, like a producer doing a two-for-one deal. The 'Alaskan' angle is carried entirely by Bear Creek fruit wines — strawberry rhubarb and dragonfruit raspberry — which are more dessert novelty than serious wine. The lone spark of regional character is Salmon Creek Sparkling, but one regional nod on a 15-bottle list doesn't make a program.
Fourteen of fifteen labels are available by the glass, which is genuinely impressive coverage — almost the entire list is pourable in a single sitting. Prices land between $7 and $10 a glass, which is honest and fair for Fairbanks. Don't expect a rotating by-the-glass program; what's on the list is what's on the list, and it hasn't changed since the dredge stopped running.
J Lohr Chardonnay — $9
J Lohr's Riverstone Chardonnay is a consistent, well-made wine that punches above its weight in this context. At $9 a glass in Fairbanks, Alaska, you're getting a reliable, lightly oaked pour that holds up next to a plate of grilled salmon without embarrassing anyone.
Angeline Reserve Pinot Noir
Angeline Reserve is the kind of Pinot that quietly overdelivers — it's not flashy, but it has enough red fruit and soft structure to work with the salmon and halibut on the menu. Most people at a buffet-style salmon bake are reaching for the Cab; this is the smarter move.
Castello del Poggio Peach Moscato
If you're paying for wine at a restaurant, even a casual one, there's no reason to drink what amounts to a flavored dessert wine that retails for $10 a bottle. The novelty isn't worth the glass price here.
Angeline Reserve Pinot Noir + Grilled Salmon
Pinot Noir with salmon is a classic for a reason — the light structure and earthy red fruit don't fight the fish the way a full Cabernet would. The Angeline Reserve keeps it honest without overcomplicating a plate that's already doing the work.
The Bottom Line
Come for the salmon — it's the real reason anyone's here — and don't overthink the wine list. Grab the J Lohr or the Angeline, enjoy the Alaskan summer light, and save your serious wine energy for a different restaurant.

Borealis Basecamp deserves credit for maintaining a 51-bottle list this far off the grid, and the recognizable names will keep most guests happy. But the markups are steep, the list plays it safe, and the program feels like it was assembled to impress rather than to excite — if you're here for the aurora, order wine and enjoy the view; if you're here for the wine, temper your expectations.

The Banks Alehouse isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it doesn't need to be — it's a dependable neighborhood alehouse where the wine list exists as a honest backup plan. If you're eating here and skipping the craft beer entirely, the Pouilly-Fuissé and Kung Fu Girl give you more to work with than you'd expect.
