The wine list at Aberdeen Barn reads exactly like the room looks — classic, comfortable, and not trying to surprise you. About 95 labels deep, it leans hard on Napa Cabernet and familiar names, which is exactly what the prime rib crowd is here for. Nothing adventurous, but nothing embarrassing either.
Napa Valley dominates, with heavy hitters like Caymus, Far Niente, Chimney Rock, and Pahlmeyer doing most of the work. There's a nod to France with Dom Perignon and Taittinger in the sparkling section, plus some Bordeaux and Rhône representation, and Oregon shows up with Penner-Ash Pinot Noir from Yamhill-Carlton. The Italian presence — a G.D. Vajra Barolo — is thin but at least it's a quality producer. A light Virginia section would feel appropriate given the address, but the list doesn't lean into local pride much.
Ten options by the glass in the $11–$14 range is respectable for a classic steakhouse format, though the pours skew predictable — think Cloudy Bay and Jordan rather than anything that'll make you stop and think. Rotation appears minimal; this is a set-it-and-forget-it glass program. It gets the job done but don't come here expecting to be surprised.
Penner-Ash Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton OR 2015 — Not listed
Penner-Ash is a serious Oregon producer, and Yamhill-Carlton Pinot at a steakhouse is genuinely rare. In a list full of California muscle, this is the bottle that shows someone was paying attention when building the list — and it's worth finding out the price.
Barolo G.D. Vajra Italy 2014
G.D. Vajra is a benchmark Barolo house and 2014 is a leaner, more elegant vintage — which means this bottle is probably being ignored by everyone ordering Caymus. It's a completely different experience and arguably the most interesting red on the list.
Taittinger Prelude Grands Crus Brut N/V
At $140 a bottle, Taittinger Prelude is priced like it's doing you a favor. Retail on this typically runs $55–$65, which puts the markup well past comfortable. If you want bubbles, find it on Wine Wednesday or skip it entirely.
Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap District Napa 2021 + Roast Prime Rib
Stag's Leap Cab is all dark cherry, cedar, and polished tannins — it doesn't bludgeon the beef, it frames it. Chimney Rock is one of the better-made Napa Cabs on this list and the prime rib is the house showpiece. Easy call.
Wednesday — Wine Wednesday — all bottles half price with any appetizer or entrée purchase, during the 3–6 p.m. happy hour window.
The Bottom Line
Aberdeen Barn is a reliable, if pricey, wine destination for Napa loyalists — show up on a Wednesday between 3 and 6 p.m. and the half-price bottle deal changes the entire math. Outside of Wine Wednesday, the markups are hard to love.

Prime 109 is one of the best wine programs in Virginia, full stop — deep list, a sommelier who clearly curated it with intention, and picks that reward curiosity over brand recognition. The markup stings, but in a room this good, with bottles this interesting, you're probably going to forgive it.

Oakhart Social's wine list punches well above its weight class for a small plates spot — the range is genuinely exciting and the Virginia representation is the real deal. Markups on the high end will sting if you reach for the Ramey or the top Rhones, but stick to the midrange and the by-the-glass picks and you're drinking well in one of Charlottesville's more interesting rooms.
