California classics, cold cuts, one great Tuesday

The wine list at Yosemite Ranch reads like a greatest-hits album of California wine — familiar faces, safe bets, nothing that's going to surprise you. It fits the room perfectly: wood accents, big plates, and a crowd that knows what they like. You're not here to be challenged; you're here to drink something solid with a ribeye.
The list runs 50-80 labels deep and sticks almost exclusively to California, with Napa, Paso Robles, and Sonoma doing the heavy lifting. Austin Hope, Silver Oak, Rombauer, La Crema, The Prisoner — these are the wines that show up on every steakhouse list between Sacramento and San Diego, and Yosemite Ranch has curated them faithfully. There's nothing wrong with any of it, but adventurous drinkers will find the ceiling pretty low. If you came hoping for a Central Coast under-the-radar Syrah or a Lodi Zin at a fair price, keep looking.
Ten to sixteen pours on any given night, which is a respectable number for a Central Valley steakhouse. The glass program leans Chardonnay-heavy on the white side and Cab-dominant on the red side — functional, unsurprising. Rotation appears minimal; don't expect anything seasonal or off-the-beaten-path showing up mid-week.
Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2020 — $95
At 90% above retail it's still not a bargain, but it's the least egregious markup on the list and it's a genuinely full-throttle Paso Cab that holds its own against anything they're pouring from Napa at twice the price. On a Tuesday, it's closer to $47-$48 — at that point it's a straight-up win.
Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2020
Most tables here are reaching for Silver Oak out of habit, but Austin Hope delivers comparable richness and intensity for less money — and it's arguably more food-friendly with the smoky, char-heavy proteins on this menu.
The Prisoner Wine Company "The Prisoner" Red Blend NV
At $90 for a bottle you can grab at Total Wine for $40, this is the worst markup on the list at 125% over retail. The Prisoner is perfectly fine wine, but you're paying a serious premium for the brand recognition here. Pass.
Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2020 + Ribeye steak
Austin Hope is built for exactly this moment — it's dense, a little jammy, and has enough tannin structure to stand up to the fat and char on a ribeye without steamrolling it. It's the most obvious pairing on the menu and it's obvious for good reason.
Tuesday — Half-price bottles on Tuesdays, with reported exclusions for reserve and high-end labels. By-the-glass pours do not appear to be included. Verify current terms with the restaurant before planning your visit around it.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Yosemite Ranch isn't going to win any awards for wine adventurousness, but the Tuesday half-price bottle promotion turns a steep list into a genuinely good deal, and the California-focused lineup is competent if predictable. Come on a Tuesday, order the Austin Hope, and eat your steak.

The Palms is a genuine effort in a market where fine dining wine lists can easily coast on brand names and call it a day — and honestly, it does some of that too. But the depth is real enough, and the room earns a wine-forward meal. Send a friend, just tell them to look past the Caymus.

Fig Garden / Central Fresno · Fresno · American / Bistro
Starving Artist Bistro isn't trying to be a wine bar, but it's doing more than most Fresno bistros bother to do — fair prices, a couple of producers worth finding, and a by-the-glass list that gives you actual options. Send a friend here without hesitation; just steer them away from the house Pinot Grigio.

Limón isn't a wine destination, but it's not pretending to be one either — the list is lean, South American, and built to work with the food, which is more than most restaurants at this price point bother to do. Go for the Jalea and the Sauvignon Blanc, skip the Malbec autopilot, and enjoy the ride.

Fig Garden / Central Fresno · Fresno · Steakhouse, American
The Manhattan is a perfectly decent steakhouse that treats its wine list as a revenue center rather than a genuine offering — markups are aggressive across the board and the selection plays it safe to a fault. Come on a Wednesday for half-price bottles, order the Juggernaut, and put your wallet away before you're tempted by the Caymus.

Fleming's Fresno is a dependable steakhouse wine program — well-stored, staffed by people who actually know the list, and wide enough to find something worth drinking. The markups are what they are for the genre, and the BTG options won't win any awards, but if someone else is picking up the check, you'll eat and drink well.

The Keg Las Colinas is a reliable wine stop for steak night — it won't dazzle you, and the markups will sting if you're paying attention, but the heavy hitters are real and the list does its job. Send your friend here for a Cab and a ribeye, not a wine revelation.

Outback Laredo's wine program is a national chain doing national chain things — predictable, overpriced relative to quality, and staffed by people who aren't expected to know anything about what they're pouring. Come for the Bloomin' Onion, stick to a cocktail, and save the wine order for somewhere that cares.

Logan's Roadhouse is not a wine destination — it's a steakhouse chain where wine clearly wasn't part of the concept. Order a beer, order a cocktail, and save the bottle for a restaurant that's actually trying.
