Walking into Wright & Co., you expect a cocktail list to lead โ and it does โ but the wine list holds its own in a way that catches you off guard. For a lively downtown Detroit bar, this is not a Malbec-and-Pinot Grigio situation. Someone here actually cares.

The list leans hard into natural and biodynamic territory, which is a genuinely bold call for a multi-level bar on Woodward Ave. You've got a Jura Ploussard from Domaine Overnoy-Crinquand โ a producer that serious wine people recognize immediately โ sitting alongside a Greek Malagousia from Ktima Gerovassiliou, which tells you this list has range and isn't just chasing trends. Elizabeth Spencer rounds out the domestic side with a Special Cuvรฉe that tilts more Cali-polished, and Orin Swift adds a familiar crowd-pleaser anchor for guests who aren't ready for the adventure. Orin Swift makes fine, flashy California wine โ but it's widely distributed, easy to find, and priced accordingly with generous restaurant markup built in. With Jura Ploussard and Greek Malagousia on the same list, spending your money here is like ordering a burger at a sushi restaurant.
Domaine Overnoy-Crinquand Ploussard + Charcuterie board
Ploussard is basically built for cured meats โ low tannin, high acid, earthy and a little funky. It cuts through fat, lifts salty flavors, and doesn't compete with anything on the board. Classic Jura logic.
