Walking into Williamson Wines on Matheson Street, the first thing you notice is that this place is not trying to be another Dry Creek Zinfandel shrine — and that's immediately interesting. The list skews effervescent and aromatic in a region where most rooms are pouring big reds before you've sat down. It's a deliberate point of view, and we respect that.
Williamson runs about 20 labels and leads with an unusually deep sparkling program — a Blanc de Blanc from their Home Ranch Estate in Dry Creek, a sparkling Shiraz, and a sparkling Malbec from Stuhlmuller Vineyard in Alexander Valley that you genuinely don't see anywhere else in Sonoma. The white and rosé lineup is equally eclectic: a Chablis-style Chardonnay, a Montrachet-style Chardonnay, a Riesling from Lake County's Kelsey Bench, and a Gewürztraminer from Russian River Valley. The red side is anchored by Stagecoach Vineyard fruit from Atlas Peak — Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec — which brings serious Napa weight into what is otherwise a Sonoma-forward story. Gaps are few, though if you came looking for a classic Dry Creek Zinfandel, you're at the wrong address.
This is a tasting room format, so the experience is structured flights rather than open by-the-glass pours — you're working through curated selections with food pairings rather than ordering off a glass menu. That said, the seated tasting model means you're getting guided exposure to a meaningful cross-section of the lineup, which functions better than a random glass-pour program at most restaurants anyway.
Williamson Wines Fizz Blanc de Blanc Sparkling White (Home Ranch Estate, Dry Creek Valley) — $25–$50 tasting experience
Estate-grown Chardonnay turned into an extra-brut sparkling wine in Dry Creek Valley is genuinely uncommon. Getting it poured alongside food in a seated tasting at this price point is a deal you won't find replicated down the street.
Williamson Wines Bubbles Sparkling Malbec (Stuhlmuller Vineyard, Alexander Valley)
Most people see 'sparkling Malbec' and assume novelty gimmick. Don't. Stuhlmuller is a respected Alexander Valley grower, and a structured, fruit-driven sparkling red from their fruit is a legitimate curiosity worth the sip — and a talking point you'll be repeating for weeks.
Williamson Wines Captivate American-style Chardonnay (Home Ranch Estate, Dry Creek Valley)
When a winery is already pouring a Chablis-style and a Montrachet-style Chardonnay from the same estate, the 'American-style' entry reads like a concession to crowd pleasers. In a lineup this focused on point of view, this one feels like the odd man out — skip it and spend the pour on the Amourette instead.
Williamson Wines Gertie Gewürztraminer (Hill Ranch, Russian River Valley) + Artisan cheese and charcuterie pairings
Gewürztraminer's natural lychee and rose petal aromatics cut through fatty charcuterie and play beautifully against washed-rind or semi-soft cheeses. Russian River Valley keeps the acidity dialed up enough that it doesn't get cloying — this is the pour that makes the cheese board make sense.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Williamson is doing something genuinely different in a town full of tasting rooms doing the same thing, and the sparkling-forward, aromatic-white-heavy lineup earns the Wild Card badge without apology. If you're in Healdsburg and want to go somewhere that will actually surprise you, put this on the list.

Hazel Hill is legitimately one of the better resort wine programs in California wine country — deep list, proper staff, and a setting that earns the splurge. The markups are real and the vibe is unabashedly luxe, but if you're already in Healdsburg, this is worth the stop.

Valette Wines at The Matheson is a single-producer wine bar that actually justifies the concept — the sourcing is legit, the prices are fair, and the Healdsburg plaza setting makes it an easy yes for a pre-dinner glass or two. Don't come expecting range; come expecting quality.
