The wine list at Whispering Oaks isn't trying to be anything it's not โ and that honesty is kind of refreshing. You're on a deck overlooking a Koi pond in rural Central Florida, and the list reflects exactly that: locally grown, estate-made, unpretentious. Don't show up expecting Burgundy.
The entire list is Florida-produced, which is either a feature or a bug depending on your expectations. Muscadine anchors the lineup โ the native Southern grape that thrives in this climate โ alongside fruit wines made from blueberries and blackberries grown nearby. There's a through-line of sweetness across most of the portfolio, with a dry white offering a rare off-ramp for those who want something less dessert-adjacent. It's a tight list of 10โ20 bottles, but it's coherent and honest about what it is.
Eight pours by the glass at $10โ$15 is genuinely solid value for a winery experience, and the range covers the estate's full spectrum โ from bone-dry to full-on sweet. The fruit wines in particular have a cult following among regulars, and the blueberry pour moves fast on warm evenings. Rotation appears to follow what's in season and what's available from the estate, so the list can shift.
Blueberry Wine โ $10โ$15
Estate-made from Florida blueberries and priced like a glass of house wine โ but this is the signature pour that people actually drive out here for. It's fun, it's local, and it delivers exactly what it promises.
Dry White
Everyone else is ordering the sweet stuff, which means this is the forgotten option on the menu. If you want something food-friendly to take through a steak dinner, the dry white is your best shot at a proper wine experience on this list.
Sweet Red
It's fine if sweet is your thing, but it's the most generic expression on a list that otherwise leans into its Florida identity. The fruit wines are more interesting and more unique โ start there instead.
Florida Muscadine + Wood Grilled Steak
Muscadine has enough rustic character and earthy depth to hold its own against the char on a grilled steak โ and drinking the native grape of the region while sitting on an outdoor deck in Oxford, Florida is the whole point of coming here.
๐ฒ The Bottom Line
Whispering Oaks is not a destination for serious wine drinkers โ it's a destination for a good time, and the wine is part of that experience rather than the centerpiece. If you're within an hour of Ocala and want something genuinely different on a Friday night, this is your wild card.
SR 200 / Southwest Ocala ยท Ocala ยท Thai
Royal Orchid makes solid Thai food, and you should absolutely go โ just order a Thai iced tea or a beer and pretend the wine list doesn't exist. If someone at your table insists on wine, point them to the Riesling and move on.

Carrabba's Ocala isn't a wine destination and doesn't pretend to be โ but Wine Wednesday (call ahead to confirm it's still running at this location) can turn a steep markup into a reasonable deal. Come for the Chicken Bryan, drink the Riesling, skip the Caymus.

Downtown Ocala ยท Ocala ยท Charcuterie and Tapas
The Keep is doing something genuinely different for downtown Ocala โ a rotating mead program, thoughtful wine picks, and markups that actually respect the customer. If you're in the area and care about what's in your glass, this is the move.

South Ocala ยท Ocala ยท American Steakhouse
Texas Roadhouse is a great place to eat a steak and throw peanut shells on the floor โ we respect the chaos. But the wine list is purely functional at best and an afterthought at worst, so come here for the food and the fun, not the Cabernet.

World Equestrian Center ยท Ocala ยท Seafood
Juno & The Peacock shouldn't be this interesting, and that's the whole point โ a seafood restaurant inside an Ocala equestrian complex with Chacra Patagonian Chardonnay and Eyrie Pinot Blanc is a genuine surprise. Markups lean steep and the format feels set-it-and-forget-it, but the underlying list has real taste behind it.

The Polo Pony is a reliable pour for the horse show crowd โ familiar bottles, fair enough execution, and enough range to keep a table happy. We wouldn't drive to Ocala for the wine list, but if you're already at the World Equestrian Center, you'll drink just fine.
