Solid pours where the whiskey crowd lands

The wine list at Veritas is short, recognizable, and completely unpretentious — which fits the room. This is a place built around whiskey first, wine second, and the list reflects that priority without embarrassing itself. What's here is approachable, and the glass prices are reasonable enough that you won't feel penalized for showing up with wine-drinker instincts.
Twenty-two labels covering the usual suspects: Napa Cabs, an Italian white or two, a Rhône blend, and a Valpolicella Ripasso that quietly raises the room's ambition level. The Cairanne Côtes du Rhône is a pleasant surprise among an otherwise California-heavy list. Don't come here looking for Burgundy or anything obscure — the gaps are real — but the producers they've chosen (Duckhorn Decoy, DAOU, Justin) are reliable crowd-pleasers that won't disappoint a table of mixed drinkers.
Every bottle on the list is also available by the glass, which is genuinely useful for a spot where half the table is ordering bourbon. The range runs $8 to $19, and at those prices you can afford to try something instead of defaulting to whatever's cheapest. The Taylor Fladgate 20yr Port at $19 a glass is the most interesting pour on the menu if you're closing out the night.
Caymus Bonanza Napa Cabernet — $13
Bonanza retails around $18-20 a bottle, so $13 a glass is on the fair side for a recognizable Napa Cab with actual Caymus DNA behind it. It punches above its price point and keeps Cab drinkers happy without breaking the bill.
Farina Valpolicella Ripasso
Most people at a place like this walk past the Ripasso and order the Decoy. That's a mistake. The Ripasso — with its dried-fruit intensity and structure from the second-pass fermentation — is the most interesting red on the list and likely gets ordered last. Worth the detour.
Girasole Chardonnay Napa
With Rodney Strong also on the list at a similar price, the Girasole doesn't offer enough to justify choosing it over a more recognizable name. Underwhelming when you've got better California options sitting right next to it.
Cairanne Côtes du Rhône + Burger or grilled beef entrée
A Southern Rhône blend built on Grenache and Syrah is exactly what you want alongside a properly grilled burger — earthy, a little spicy, and enough fruit to hold up to char without overwhelming. It's the kind of pairing that makes you feel smarter than the room.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Veritas isn't a wine destination, but it's a perfectly decent place to drink wine while everyone else debates single malts. The prices are fair, the picks are familiar, and the Ripasso alone earns it a return visit.
I-435 & Metcalf / South Overland Park · Overland Park · Upscale Steakhouse
Ruth's Chris Overland Park delivers exactly what it promises: a big, well-managed wine list staffed by people who know it, served in proper glassware at prices that will make you wince. Send a friend here for a business dinner or a celebration, but tell them to stick to the mid-tier California reds and leave the prestige bottles for someone else's tab.

Central Overland Park · Overland Park · Italian
Garozzo's isn't a wine destination, but it's a reliable Italian dinner with a list that won't embarrass you — especially if you show up on a Sunday. Half-price bottles up to $100 is a legitimate deal, and for a neighborhood Italian that's been around long enough to bottle its own Chianti, there's more to like here than the list length suggests.

The Cheesecake Factory's wine list exists to reduce friction, not create excitement — it's a corporate safety net dressed up as a wine program. Order the Decoy, enjoy your Chicken Madeira, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that actually wants it.

Mission Farms · Overland Park · New American
Tavern at Mission Farms is a reliable neighborhood wine list — nothing that'll move you, but Wednesday half-price bottles flip the math entirely and make this worth a weekly habit. Come for the deal, not the depth.

Spin! Pizza is a perfectly fine place to eat pizza; the wine list is an afterthought that exists because restaurants need wine lists. Come on a Monday, order a bottle of Gnarly Head at half-price, and make peace with what this is.

La Bodega isn't trying to be a wine bar, but the half-price Monday and Thursday deals, Spain-focused list, and food-friendly pours make it the most fun you can have drinking wine with tapas in Kansas City. Go on a Thursday, order the Marqués de Cáceres, and don't overthink it.
