Walking into Valette, you get the sense that the wine list was built by people who actually drink โ and live โ in Sonoma County. It's California-forward without apology, and the bottle range ($45โ$300) keeps things accessible without dumbing down the selection. This isn't a list trying to impress a visiting New York critic; it's built for the locals and the lucky visitors who found their way here.
The list runs 150โ250 bottles deep and leans hard into the California bench strength you'd expect a few miles from some of the state's most celebrated vineyards. Ridge Monte Bello, Kosta Browne, Williams Selyem, Rochioli, Littorai, Peter Michael โ these aren't filler names, they're the real deal. The Valette Proprietary Red (estate) is a smart anchor move: the restaurant putting skin in the game with their own wine. The list won't dazzle you with obscure Jura producers or Georgian naturals, but it delivers on what it promises โ serious California wine in the place where a lot of it was born. Wine Spectator has handed them an Award of Excellence every year since 2016, and you can see why.
Twelve to twenty pours by the glass at $14โ$22 is a solid program for a restaurant this size. The range keeps both the 'just a glass with dinner' crowd and the more curious drinker reasonably happy. We'd like to see a bit more rotation to keep things fresh, but what's on the board is well-chosen.
Flowers Vineyard & Winery โ $45โ$65 range
Flowers is a Sonoma Coast producer that consistently overdelivers on quality relative to its price. Finding it on a list in Healdsburg at fair restaurant markup โ rather than inflated fine-dining rates โ makes it the smart play for the table.
Littorai Wines
Most tables here will reach for the Kosta Browne or Williams Selyem because the names are familiar. Littorai is the one the wine nerds quietly order โ Ted Lemon's biodynamic Sonoma Coast Pinot and Chardonnay routinely punch above their price and have a specificity of place that the bigger names can't always match.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars
A legendary name that trades heavily on its 1976 Paris Tasting reputation. On a Healdsburg list surrounded by producers who are farming 20 minutes away, Stag's Leap feels like it showed up for the brand recognition. There are better bottles here for the same money.
Valette Proprietary Red + Cheese & Charcuterie Plate
The estate red alongside the cheese and charcuterie is the most honest order you can make here. It's the restaurant's own wine, made from fruit grown in the same county as most of what's on the plate โ and that kind of coherence actually shows up in the glass.
๐ฒ The Bottom Line
Valette is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that happens to have a genuinely good California wine list โ unpretentious, well-stocked, fairly priced, and deeply rooted in its place. If you're eating in Healdsburg and care about what's in your glass, this is a reliable call.

Hazel Hill is the real deal โ a serious, thoughtfully curated wine program in one of the best dining rooms in Sonoma County, helmed by a sommelier who clearly knows the region. The markups are what they are for a Montage property, but the depth and quality of the list justify the pilgrimage.

SingleThread is one of the few restaurants in California where the wine program genuinely matches the ambition of the kitchen โ deep cellar, expert staff, and a list that rewards curiosity at every price point above $100. Yes, it's expensive by any reasonable measure, but if you're already committing to the tasting menu, do not sleep on what's in that cellar.

Taste is the kind of restaurant that makes you feel smart for knowing about it โ a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence honoree since 2008 that leans hard into its Amador County identity and mostly delivers. If you're in wine country and want to drink where you are instead of drinking around it, get a reservation and show up on a Wednesday.
