Trestle is the kind of place where the food is clearly the star and the wine list plays a supporting role — competent, probably leaning France and Italy, built to complement the prix-fixe without overshadowing it. At $50 a head for food, the wine program needs to stay nimble and honest on price to keep the value proposition intact. Based on what we can gather, it mostly does.
The list appears to draw from France and Italy, which is a sensible call for a tasting-menu format — those regions have centuries of practice playing nice with food. A focused, shorter list built around the seasonal menu makes more sense here than a sprawling tome, and Trestle seems to understand that. We couldn't get eyes on specific producers or bottles, which is frustrating, but the restaurant's reputation for smooth, thoughtful service suggests the wine selections aren't an afterthought. Gaps in adventurous or New World options are likely, but that may be entirely intentional.
Glass pour options are unconfirmed from our research, but a tasting-menu format like this typically leans toward pairing options or a tight by-the-glass selection that rotates with the menu. If they're doing this right, you should be able to get through the meal with two or three well-chosen pours without committing to a full bottle. We'd ask the server directly what's rotating — that question alone will tell you a lot about how seriously they take the program.
The Bottom Line
Trestle earns its reputation as a neighborhood gem for the food, and the wine list seems to hold up its end of the deal without trying too hard. We'd feel comfortable here on a date night — just go in ready to ask questions, because we can't promise the list will speak for itself.

House of Prime Rib is one of San Francisco's great dining institutions and the wine list knows its assignment — California Cabs to drink with California beef, no fuss. It won't thrill anyone looking for adventure, but it won't embarrass anyone either, and for a night built around tableside carving and Yorkshire pudding, that's probably enough.
