French-leaning list that mostly earns its keep

The wine list at The White Linen arrives looking like it dressed for the occasion — clean, French-forward, and intentional. It's not trying to impress you with length; it's going for curation, and mostly pulls it off. The vibe says 'we thought about this,' even if the thinking stopped at around 40 labels.
France is clearly running the show here, with Louis Jadot anchoring the Burgundy section and Famille Perrin's Côtes du Rhône Villages doing reliable work on the southern Rhône flank. The Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas is the list's most serious bottle — a Northern Rhône Syrah from a producer who actually knows that appellation. Bordeaux gets a nod via Chateau Blouin Bordeaux Supérieur, which is fine but not exciting. The American representation is thin and leans commercial — Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Cabernet is a grocery store wine in a fine dining suit, and it doesn't belong at this table.
Eight to ten pours on any given night, which is a reasonable spread for a room this size. La Vieille Ferme Rosé at $11 keeps things approachable at the low end, and the Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay at $13 gives the glass program some actual credibility. Rotation appears minimal — this list reads like it hasn't changed since opening day.
Côtes du Rhône Villages by Famille Perrin — $13 glass (estimated)
Famille Perrin knows the Southern Rhône better than almost anyone, and their Côtes du Rhône Villages reliably punches above its retail price. Order this over the Jadot Beaujolais if you want something with a little more grip and personality without paying for the Cornas.
Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas
Most diners at a place like this will default to the Bordeaux or a Cabernet and never look twice at a Cornas. That's a mistake. Colombo's Cornas is Northern Rhône Syrah with real structure and depth — savory, dark-fruited, and built to go with red meat. It's the most interesting bottle on this list and most tables will walk right past it.
La Vieille Ferme Rosé
At $11 a glass, this is a 300% markup on an $11 retail bottle. We get it — low-end pours anchor every glass program — but an $11 Provence-adjacent rosé with that kind of margin feels like a trap. Order it at your neighborhood wine bar for $9 and spend the difference on a second glass of Cornas.
Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas + Beef filet with red wine reduction
Cornas Syrah has the structure and dark fruit to stand up to a seared filet, and that red wine reduction on the plate is practically calling out for a Northern Rhône to echo back at it. The Colombo has enough tannin to cut through the richness without overpowering the beef. This is the pairing the list was built for.
✔️ The Bottom Line
The White Linen is a legitimate fine dining option in Topeka with a wine list that has real moments — the Cornas alone is worth the trip. Just watch the markups on the commodity pours, skip the Coppola Cab entirely, and you'll drink well.

Jose Pepper's is a great spot for a frozen margarita and a chimichanga — the wine list just isn't why you're here, and it knows it. Order the cocktails and don't look back.

The wine list at Olive Garden East Topeka is a corporate document, not a wine program — marked up steeply on bottles that deserve no such confidence. Order a cocktail, split a bottle of the house Chianti if you must, and save your wine curiosity for literally anywhere else in Topeka.

The wine list exists because every Italian restaurant has to have one — not because anyone here is passionate about it. Drink the Cavit, enjoy the unlimited breadsticks, and save the serious wine drinking for somewhere else.

Red Lobster's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a national chain that treats wine as an afterthought — familiar names, steep markups, zero curation. Order the Riesling, enjoy the Cheddar Bay Biscuits, and don't come here looking for a wine moment.

Olive Garden is not a wine destination and was never trying to be one — the list exists to move bottles, not to inspire anyone. Order the Il Grigio if you want something worth drinking, otherwise stick to the Chianti and save your wine energy for somewhere else.

LongHorn's wine program exists to check a box, not to enhance your dinner. Order the steak, skip the wine list, and if someone insists, point them to the Decoy Cab and move on.
