Walking into The Spoon Trade, you're not expecting a serious wine list — the vibe is casual beach-town comfort food, scratch-made and unpretentious. But the wine list surprises you. There's real intentionality here, with a lean toward hyper-local SLO Coast producers that most restaurants two hours north wouldn't bother sourcing.
The list is short, but whoever built it clearly knows the Central Coast appellation map. Sinor La Vallee is the local headliner — a Biddle Ranch Vineyard stalwart that represents the cool-climate SLO Coast at its most honest. The Dunites Syrah-Grenache rounds out the local story nicely, leaning into that savory, windswept character the Dunites growing area is quietly becoming known for. What's genuinely unexpected is the presence of French Chablis — both Domaine Barat and Domaine Richoux — which signals someone on staff actually thinks about acidity and minerality, not just regional pride. The list doesn't try to be everything, and it's better for it.
By-the-glass specifics aren't fully documented, but given the tight list size, expect a modest rotating handful of options rather than a sprawling pour menu. Not a bad wine by any means, but with Domaine Richoux already on the list, Barat feels like the redundant pick. When you have two Chablis and limited real estate, one is always the runner-up — and Richoux wins this race.
Sinor La Vallee + Seasonal Market Fish
Sinor La Vallee's cool-climate whites are built on restraint and salinity — exactly what you want against a simply prepared market fish. The SLO Coast fog influence in the wine mirrors the coastal setting on the plate.

The Spoon Trade has no business being this thoughtful about wine for a casual beach-town comfort food spot, and that's the whole point. If you're in Grover Beach and want a genuinely local glass with your fried chicken, this is a better bet than anything with a bigger wine list and a worse sense of place.
