First Impression
The wine list at The Shore Room reads like it was designed to reassure rather than excite — recognizable names, approachable prices, nothing that's going to spark a debate. It's a hotel restaurant wine list that knows what it is, and mostly doesn't apologize for it. The riverfront setting does some heavy lifting here.
Selection Deep Dive
The list leans hard on California with some Italian and New Zealand representation mixed in — a safe but sensible spread for a casual fine-dining crowd in Reno. You'll find Sonoma-Cutrer and Daou doing the expected work on the white and red sides respectively, while Sequoia Grove Cab brings a Napa option for guests who want to feel like they're splurging. Oregon and Washington are listed as focus regions but don't show up prominently in the by-the-glass lineup, which is a missed opportunity. The overall range tops out around 50–80 bottles — enough to find something decent, not enough to get lost in.
By the Glass
Ten-plus options by the glass with a price band of $14–$21 is solid for a hotel restaurant in this market — you're not getting gouged. The selection covers the usual bases: bubbles, white, red, and something sweet with the Vietti Moscato d'Asti holding it down nicely. Rotation doesn't appear to be a strength here; this feels more like a set list than a program with momentum.
Vietti Moscato d'Asti 2022 — $14
Vietti is a legitimate Piedmont producer making some of the best Moscato d'Asti out there — low alcohol, lightly sweet, genuinely refreshing. At the low end of the glass price range, this is the most pedigree per dollar on the list.
Te Pa Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Most people at a hotel restaurant will default to Sonoma-Cutrer and call it a night. The Te Pa from Marlborough is the smarter move — brighter, more energetic, and from a region that does Sauvignon Blanc as well as anywhere on earth.
Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Sequoia Grove is a fine enough Napa Cab, but it's widely distributed and easy to find at retail. At hotel restaurant markup, you're paying a premium for a bottle that doesn't justify the stretch — the Daou from Paso gives you more character for less money.
Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay 2023 + Smoked Salmon Benedict
Sonoma-Cutrer's Russian River Chardonnay has just enough oak and richness to stand up to the smoked salmon without bulldozing it — the wine's subtle creaminess and the hollandaise are working from the same playbook.
Wednesday — Half off all bottles of wine
✔️ The Bottom Line
The Shore Room won't win any awards for its wine program, but Wednesday half-price bottles and fair by-the-glass pricing make it an easy yes for a riverfront dinner. Send a friend here if they want a decent glass of wine with a view, not if they're chasing something they haven't tried before.
