Great Pizza, Forgotten Wine List

The Rock is built around wood-fired pies and cold beer — and it makes no secret of that. The wine list feels like it was assembled to check a box rather than to actually serve wine drinkers. If you came here hoping for a thoughtful pour to go with your Tuscan Chicken Pizza, temper those expectations now.
Twenty-odd labels, almost entirely Washington State and California, with a roster that reads like the wine aisle at a grocery store: Columbia Crest, Meiomi, Robert Mondavi. There's nothing wrong with these bottles in the right context, but at a restaurant with wood-fired pizzas begging for a Sangiovese or a peppery Syrah, the lack of ambition stings. No Italian varieties, no Pacific Northwest cult producers, no interesting by-the-glass wildcards — just the same familiar labels you've seen at every casual chain in America. The regional pride angle could work if they leaned into Washington's genuinely exciting wine scene, but this list barely scratches the surface.
Six to eight pours in the $9–$12 range keeps things accessible, and Wednesday's half-price bottle deal is the one real reason to think about wine here. The glass selection mirrors the bottle list — safe, familiar, uninspired — with no real rotation to speak of.
Columbia Crest Chardonnay — $9/glass
It's no showstopper, but Columbia Crest consistently punches above its weight for the price point. At a casual pizza joint, it's the most honest pour on the list — especially on a Wednesday when the bottle comes at half price.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
Yes, it's ubiquitous. Yes, it's a crowd-pleaser almost by design. But on a list this thin, the Meiomi's soft red fruit and approachable structure actually holds its own against a smoky wood-fired crust better than the heavier Cabernets here. It's not a hidden gem in any real wine sense — it's the least bad option, and sometimes that counts.
Canyon Road Cabernet Sauvignon
A $10 retail bottle marked up to restaurant pricing is hard to justify anywhere, but Canyon Road is the floor of acceptable here. There's no story, no character, and no reason to order this when the rest of the list — while limited — at least features producers with a pulse.
Meiomi Pinot Noir + Tuscan Chicken Pizza
The Tuscan Chicken Pizza's roasted garlic and herb notes need something with enough fruit to keep up but not so much tannin that it fights the white meat. Meiomi's soft, jammy Pinot plays along without overpowering — it's the closest thing to a smart pairing this list can offer.
Wednesday — Half off all bottles of wine
❌ The Bottom Line
The Rock is a legitimately fun spot for pizza and beer, and we'd send you there gladly for both. For wine, though, the list is an afterthought dressed up in a menu — come on Wednesday for the half-price bottles, order the Columbia Crest, and put your energy into the pizza.

West Downtown / Riverside · Spokane · Barbecue / American Tavern
The Blackbird is a genuinely good barbecue tavern that simply doesn't care about wine, and the steep markups on uninspired bottles make that indifference expensive. Come for the smoked meats and a cold beer — if you insist on wine, grab the Milbrandt and move on.

Downtown Spokane · Spokane · Fondue / Upscale Casual
The Melting Pot Spokane isn't a wine destination, and it's not trying to be — but the Washington State anchors on this list are genuinely good, and if you stick to those, you'll drink well enough for the occasion. Come for the fondue experience, order the Ste. Michelle, and save the serious wine night for somewhere else.

Downtown Spokane · Spokane · Hotel cocktail bar and lounge with small plates
1919 won't blow any minds, but for a hotel bar in downtown Spokane it earns genuine respect for keeping Washington State producers front and center. Come for the room, stay for the Beresan — just don't expect any surprises in the pricing.

The Grand Terrace Bar is a great place to drink wine in Spokane — just not necessarily great wine. Come for the skyline, order the Riesling, and save the serious bottle hunting for elsewhere.

Mellow Mushroom Old Shell Road is not a wine destination — it's a pizza spot that happens to have wine — and on most nights that's exactly fine. Show up on a Wednesday, grab a Josh Cab at half-price, and put your energy into the pizza.

Spin! Pizza is a perfectly fine place to eat pizza; the wine list is an afterthought that exists because restaurants need wine lists. Come on a Monday, order a bottle of Gnarly Head at half-price, and make peace with what this is.

Grimaldi's is worth the trip for the coal-fired pizza; the wine list is not worth thinking about. Order the Chianti or the Nero d'Avola, don't look at the markup math, and focus on the pizza.
