The list at The Nook is nine bottles long and every single one is Spanish. That is either a bold editorial statement or a very short menu — we'd argue both, and we respect it. There's no filler Malbec or obligatory Napa Cab in sight, which tells you someone here actually has a point of view.
Nine labels, zero fluff. The Nook leans hard into Iberian regions most Sacramento wine bars wouldn't dare touch: Txakoli from the Basque Coast, Mencía from Bierzo, Monastrell from Jumilla, Albariño from Rías Baixas, Verdejo from both Castilla y León and Rueda. The white and sparkling categories punch above their weight — Bornos Sparkling Verdejo and a Lambrusco-style Cialdini show real range for a list this compact. The gap is obvious: zero Rioja, no Ribera del Duero, nothing from Priorat — but that might be intentional minimalism rather than oversight.
All nine bottles pour by the glass, which means the entire list is accessible without committing to a bottle — a genuinely good move for a wine bar format. Pours range from $14 to $17, which is honest pricing for Sacramento. There's no rotation data available, so we can't confirm whether the list refreshes, but what's here is worth working through.
Cucu Verdejo Castilla y León — $56
The cheapest bottle on the list and one of the most food-friendly. Verdejo at this price point from Castilla y León is easy-drinking, aromatic, and won't make you do math before ordering a second glass.
Akilia Mencía Bierzo
Mencía is one of Spain's most underrated red grapes — smoky, floral, lighter than you'd expect — and Bierzo is its best address. Most people skip it for something they recognize. Don't be most people.
Tantaka Txakolina
At $68 it's the priciest bottle on the list. Txakoli is a fantastic wine — briny, low-alcohol, made for seafood — but it's also a style built for drinking young and fresh by the glass, not nursing a bottle. The $14 pour makes more sense here than the full commit.
Aba Albariño Rías Baixas + Charcuterie or seafood board
Albariño's natural salinity and citrus-driven acidity were essentially designed to cut through cured meats and anything pulled from the ocean. If The Nook has any kind of snack board situation — and a wine bar probably does — this is the move.
The Bottom Line
Nine Spanish wines, fair prices, and zero apologies — The Nook is a wild card worth taking. If you want a broad international list, look elsewhere; if you want a focused, confident program that actually knows what it's doing, pull up a stool.

The Snug is a cocktail bar first and a wine destination never — but for what it is, the wine list is shockingly well-curated and worth exploring if you're the one at the table who doesn't want a Negroni. Don't come here for a deep wine night; do come here knowing the glass of Gamay you order between cocktails will be better than it has any right to be.

Mulvaney's is doing something genuinely unusual for Sacramento: serious grower Champagne and left-field regional picks in a converted firehouse that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you eat here and order the house red without looking at this list, that's on you.
