First Impression
The wine list at The Eagle OTR feels like an afterthought stapled to the back of a very good fried chicken menu. Twenty-something bottles, nothing unexpected, and a vibe that screams 'we stocked whatever the distributor suggested.' If you came here for wine, you made a wrong turn.
Selection Deep Dive
The list leans on California and Italy for its backbone, which is about as safe as it gets. You've got your Pinot Grigio from the Veneto, your Napa bubbles — workhorses that show up on a hundred menus across Cincinnati. There's no real exploration here, no regional curiosity, nothing that suggests anyone with wine knowledge put this together. It covers the bases without ever rounding them.
By the Glass
Six by-the-glass options is functional, not exciting. The Mumm Napa Brut Prestige at $9 a glass is the one bright spot — a fair price for a crowd-pleasing sparkler that actually works with the food here. Beyond that, the BTG selection mirrors the bottle list: safe, familiar, low-ambition.
Mumm Napa Brut Prestige — $9
Nine bucks for a glass of Napa bubbly is genuinely reasonable, and honestly it's the most fun pairing with a plate of fried chicken you'll find on this list. Grab it and don't overthink it.
Caposaldo Pinot Grigio
It's no trophy wine, but a crisp, neutral Pinot Grigio from the Veneto actually does real work alongside spicy hot chicken — more so than the heavier red options on this list. Most people skip it. Don't.
Veuve Clicquot Brut
At $76 a bottle, you're paying a significant premium over retail for a Champagne that you can find at any grocery store for around $45. The Eagle is a great time, but it's not a Veuve Clicquot kind of room. Save that money for the chicken.
Mumm Napa Brut Prestige + Fried Chicken
Bubbles and fried chicken is one of the least-argued pairings in the business. The effervescence cuts through the fat, the light fruit plays off the crispy crust, and at $9 a glass it's one of the better deals on the menu.
❌ The Bottom Line
Come to The Eagle OTR for the fried chicken — it earns every bit of its reputation. Come for the wine and you'll be disappointed; this list exists to check a box, not to enhance your meal.
