Wingman Metrics
Walking into The Clinton House, the wine list reads exactly how you'd expect from a charming historic steakhouse in small-town New Jersey — California-heavy, recognizable names, no major surprises. It's a list built for confidence, not adventure. That's not a knock; most people sitting down to a ribeye here know what they want, and the list delivers.
The 150-250 bottle list leans hard into California and France, which aligns with the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence credentials it's held since 2020. You'll find the steakhouse greatest hits — Caymus, Silver Oak Alexander Valley, Jordan, Duckhorn — alongside a nod to Burgundy via Louis Jadot. The French side of the list is thin, and anything outside of Cali or France is likely minimal at best. It's not a list that challenges you, but it's one that has the right bottles for the right room.
The by-the-glass program runs 12-20 pours in the $10-$18 range, which is reasonable for a sit-down steakhouse in this zip code. Rombauer Chardonnay almost certainly anchors the white side — crowd-pleasing, reliable, and a smart by-the-glass call. We'd love to see more rotation here, but what's on offer is consistent and food-friendly.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $80
Jordan is a benchmark California Cab — structured, approachable, and consistent vintage to vintage. At steakhouse pricing, it often lands at or near retail, making it one of the smarter calls on a list that could easily lean toward gouging. Order this over the Caymus if you want finesse with your filet.
Louis Jadot Burgundy
In a room full of Napa Cabs, most tables are sleeping on this. Louis Jadot Burgundy is elegant, food-friendly, and frankly more interesting than anything else on the list if you're willing to stray from the California lane. With a dry-aged strip or the lobster bisque, it punches above its price class.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is everywhere, marked up generously everywhere, and has been coasting on its reputation for years. At a steakhouse, you're going to pay a premium for a bottle you can find at any wine shop for far less. Go with Jordan instead — more complexity, similar price point, better story.
Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon + Dry-Aged New York Strip
Silver Oak Alexander Valley is plush, slightly smoky, and has enough fruit weight to stand up to the intense savoriness of a dry-aged strip. The Alexander Valley style — rounder and more accessible than Napa — doesn't bulldoze the meat, it rides alongside it.
✔️ The Bottom Line
The Clinton House is a dependable steakhouse wine list doing exactly what it sets out to do — get the right bottles in front of the right crowd at fair prices. Not where you go to discover something new, but absolutely where you go to drink well with a great piece of beef.

A Wisconsin supper club earning a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence is genuinely surprising, and Green Acres earns it by stocking a focused, California-forward list that's built for exactly the kind of food it serves. It won't impress the natural wine crowd, but it'll take great care of anyone who wants a proper bottle with a proper steak in a historic room off the highway.
