First Impression

Walk into The Cheese Shoppe and you immediately understand the hierarchy: cheese is king, wine is the loyal subject. The list leans heavily toward safe Euro bottles designed to complement whatever's in the case, which makes sense but doesn't exactly inspire adventure. It's a cheese shop first, and the wine program reflects that supportive role.

Selection Deep Dive

The selection skews French and Italian with predictable crowd-pleasers—think Sancerre, Chablis, Chianti Classico, and a handful of Spanish Albariños for the Palm Beach set. You'll find maybe 20-30 bottles total, with a clear preference for whites and lighter reds that won't overpower delicate cheeses. There's virtually no New World presence beyond a token California Chardonnay, and don't expect any natural wine or orange wine experiments. The list does what it needs to do: provide clean, food-friendly wines that pair with aged Gruyère and triple-crème brie without causing arguments.

By the Glass

By-the-glass offerings are limited but functional—probably 4-6 pours that rotate based on whatever's open for tastings. Expect the usual suspects: a Prosecco, a Provençal rosé, maybe a Pinot Grigio, and a light French red. Nothing mind-blowing, but also nothing offensive. The pours are generous enough for a cheese shop setting, where the wine is really playing second fiddle to the fromage.

💰Best Value

Domaine Vacheron Sancerre — $48

Classic Loire Sauvignon Blanc with bright citrus and minerality that cuts through rich cheeses without breaking the bank for Palm Beach pricing

💎Hidden Gem

Ceretto Langhe Arneis

Most people overlook this Piedmontese white in favor of the Pinot Grigio, but its almond and pear notes work magic with soft cheeses and aged varieties alike

Skip This

Generic Chianti in the $35 range

Whatever mass-market Chianti they're pouring is marked up too high for what's essentially grocery store juice—spend $10 more for a Classico

🍽️Perfect Pairing

Pierre Sparr Crémant d'Alsace Brut + Triple-Crème Brie with Fig Jam

The bubbles and acidity slice through the butterfat while the slight sweetness echoes the fig—textbook pairing that always works

✔️ The Bottom Line

The Cheese Shoppe knows its lane: this is about building the perfect cheese board, and the wine list exists to support that mission. If you're looking for vinous thrills, go elsewhere—but if you want a safe bottle to pair with excellent fromage, they've got you covered.
