Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Taverna Rossa is short, safe, and exactly what you'd expect from a suburban Italian spot in McKinney — familiar names, nothing that'll raise an eyebrow, nothing that'll raise your pulse either. At 32 labels, it's not trying to be a wine destination, and that's fine as long as the pricing holds up. Spoiler: it mostly doesn't.
The list leans heavily on recognizable brands — Kim Crawford, Rombauer, Veuve Clicquot, Robert Mondavi — which tells you this wine program is built for recognition, not discovery. There's a token nod to Italian wine with the Chiarlo Le Orme Barbera d'Asti DOCG, which is genuinely the most interesting bottle on the list, and the Guigal Côtes du Rhône offers a bit of Old World credibility on the red side. Beyond that, you're largely looking at a greatest hits playlist from the grocery store aisle. No Nebbiolo, no Vermentino, no Etna Rosso — for an Italian restaurant, the Italian wine bench is thin.
Seventeen by-the-glass options is a solid count for a list this size, covering bubbles, whites, rosé, and reds with enough range to work for a table with mixed preferences. The $8 house pours anchor the low end and are what they are, while the Le Grand Cortâge Brut Rosé at $16 a glass is the most interesting BTG option. What's missing is any by-the-glass Italian red — a Barbera or Montepulciano by the glass would feel right at home here.
Chiarlo Le Orme Barbera d'Asti DOCG — $48
The one bottle that actually fits the Italian restaurant context. Barbera d'Asti at this price point is food-friendly, lower in tannin, and higher in acid — exactly what you want with pasta and red sauce. It's the most interesting pick on the list at a fair price.
Guigal Côtes du Rhône Red Blend
Most people scroll past it looking for a Cab or a Malbec, but Guigal's Côtes du Rhône is a legitimate wine from a legendary producer. It's Grenache-forward, earthy, and punches above its station on a list like this. Order it before someone else does.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
At $65 a bottle, you're paying a significant premium for something that retails around $15. Kim Crawford is perfectly decent wine, but it's also the definition of grocery store Sauvignon Blanc. The markup here is hard to justify when you can grab it at Costco on the way home.
Chiarlo Le Orme Barbera d'Asti DOCG + Margherita Pizza
Barbera's bright acidity and cherry-forward profile cut right through the richness of the mozzarella and play off the tomato sauce without overwhelming it. It's the classic Italian instinct — high-acid wine with high-acid food — and it works every time.
The Bottom Line
Taverna Rossa's wine list gets the job done for a casual dinner out, but the markups on familiar bottles make it hard to recommend going beyond a glass or two. Stick with the Barbera or the Guigal and save the splurge for the food.

Ida Claire isn't a wine destination, but it's a solid place to drink wine — especially if you time it for happy hour. Show up between 3 and 6, order the shrimp and grits, and let someone else worry about the cellar.

Mi Cocina McKinney put exactly zero thought into their wine program, and it shows in every predictable bottle on that nine-label list. Order a margarita and don't look back.

Bravo! is a competent chain wine program — wide by-the-glass selection, a few Italian producers worth noting, and prices that are steep but not insulting. You're not coming here for the wine list, but you won't regret ordering either.

Truluck's isn't a destination wine list, but the nightly happy hour deals and an actual sommelier on staff mean you can drink well here without too much pain — just lean on the bar specials and let the secret wine surprise you. Send a friend who cares more about stone crab than obscure growers, and they'll leave happy.

Brio McKinney's wine list won't win any awards and the markup will sting if you reach for the California heavyweights, but there are a few genuinely Italian picks buried in there worth finding. Come for the food, order thoughtfully, and stick to the Old World side of the list.

Gather isn't trying to be a wine destination, and that's okay — but the $63 Syrah by the glass and the static, California-heavy list suggest the program hasn't been pushed in a while. Stick to the mid-tier pours, order the Chianti, and enjoy it for what it is: a casual neighborhood spot where the wine won't derail the evening.

Little Italy Ristorante isn't coming here for the wine — and at these prices, that's probably fine if you just need something cold in a glass. But nine labels, no Italian depth to speak of, and a list that hasn't been curated so much as assembled means this is strictly a cocktail-first, wine-if-you-must situation. If wine matters to you even a little, the food might be worth the trip, but plan to drink elsewhere.

Floridino's wine list does the minimum required to call itself a wine list — fair prices on uninspiring labels, zero rotation, and a by-the-glass program that's really just the entire list. If you want something to wash down a slice, the Folonari Chianti or Sassoregale are your best moves. But no one is driving to Chandler for the wine program here.

Angelo's built a short, focused, all-Italian by-the-glass list and priced it fairly — that's a genuinely uncommon combination in the suburbs. We don't have enough intel on the food menu or staff to give it a full Rager endorsement, but the wine program alone earns a detour. If you're eating Italian in Bellevue and want something better than the usual suspects, this list rewards the curious.
