First Impression

The wine list at Superior's arrives like a small novel โ€” 400 to 600 bottles deep, anchored in California, France, and Italy, and clearly built by people who actually care. White tablecloths, dim lighting, and a sommelier team of three tells you immediately this isn't a list that got assembled by accident. For Shreveport, it's borderline shocking.

Selection Deep Dive

California is the backbone here โ€” Caymus, Jordan, Silver Oak, Stag's Leap, Chateau Montelena, Far Niente, Duckhorn โ€” the Napa canon is well represented and then some. France holds its own with Chateau Margaux, Chateau Lynch-Bages, and Opus One sitting alongside the Bordeaux stalwarts, while Italy brings Gaja Barolo and Sassicaia to keep things interesting on the boot. The list leans classic and collector-friendly rather than adventurous โ€” you won't find much natural wine or obscure Jura producers here โ€” but the depth within these regions is genuinely impressive and has earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence every year since 2009.

By the Glass

With 20 to 35 pours available by the glass, there's real range here for diners who aren't ready to commit to a full bottle. Wednesday's half-price wine night is one of the better deals in Louisiana โ€” it applies to the full list and gives you access to bottles that would otherwise require a serious occasion. The BTG program rotates enough to stay interesting.

๐Ÿ’ฐBest Value

Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 โ€” $175

Far Niente Cab retails around $85-$95, so the markup is real โ€” but relative to the rest of this list, $175 for a Napa estate Cab of this caliber is the move. Especially on a Wednesday.

๐Ÿ’ŽHidden Gem

Chateau Lynch-Bages

Everyone at this table is going to order the Caymus or Silver Oak. Lynch-Bages is a Pauillac fifth growth that drinks like a second, with structure and complexity that will absolutely hold up against a bone-in ribeye and make you look like you know something the rest of the table doesn't.

โ›”Skip This

Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

At $195 a bottle, you're paying a significant premium over retail for a wine that's become so ubiquitous it's basically the house red of corporate expense accounts nationwide. The quality is fine โ€” but the value isn't there when better options sit nearby on the same list.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธPerfect Pairing

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon + Bone-in Ribeye

Stag's Leap built its reputation on Cab with structure and elegance rather than pure muscle โ€” exactly what you want next to a well-marbled bone-in ribeye. The fat in the cut softens the tannins; the wine's dark fruit and cedar meet the char. Classic for a reason.

๐ŸทHalf-Price Wine Night

Wednesday โ€” Half-price wine night every Wednesday โ€” applies to the full bottle list, making it one of the best wine deals in Louisiana.

๐Ÿ”ฅ The Bottom Line

Superior's is the rare steakhouse wine list that actually deserves its Wine Spectator hardware โ€” three sommeliers, 400-plus bottles, and half-price Wednesdays make it the best wine destination in the market by a wide margin. The markups on the famous names sting, but the depth and program quality are legitimate.
