STK South Beach is selling a vibe first and wine second — you can feel it the moment you open the beverage menu. With 117 labels on paper, the list sounds impressive until you start actually reading it and realize you've seen every single one of these bottles at a TGI Friday's with better lighting. This is a wine list designed to move bottles, not to inspire.
The whites lean heavily on the Chardonnay-Sauvignon Blanc-Pinot Grigio trifecta, with predictable picks like Rombauer, Kim Crawford, and Gabbiano doing most of the heavy lifting. Rosé coverage is two bottles deep — Whispering Angel and Miraval — which is basically the Instagram rosé starter pack. On the sparkling side, Veuve Clicquot and Moët anchor the Champagne section, which is fine but tells you exactly who the restaurant thinks its customer is. There's a 'Free-Spirited Wine' category that flirts with something more interesting, but don't get too excited — the rest of the list has no follow-through.
Three by-the-glass options at $9 is a number so low it raises more questions than it answers — either those pours are thimble-sized or there's something funnier going on with the math. The BTG program offers almost no flexibility for anyone who wants to explore; you're essentially choosing from the house equivalent of whatever's open behind the bar. For a 117-label list, three glass pours is a real swing-and-a-miss.
The Bottom Line
STK South Beach is a party venue that happens to serve steak and also happens to have a wine list — in that order. Unless your goal is splitting a Veuve bottle for the 'gram, you're better off ordering a cocktail and saving your wine energy for somewhere that actually cares.
