Wingman Metrics
You're in Youngstown, Ohio β and then you open the wine list and suddenly you're not. Four hundred and fifty-plus labels stare back at you, anchored by Barolo, Brunello, Super Tuscans, and serious California heavyweights. This is not a restaurant that phoned in its wine program.
The Italian side of this list is the real story: Pio Cesare and Marcarini representing Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino in multiple expressions, and the full Super Tuscan hall of fame β Tignanello, Sassicaia β sitting right there on a menu in northeast Ohio. California is well-covered too, with Caymus and Silver Oak doing the crowd-pleasing heavy lifting, and Opus One anchoring the prestige end. The global reach beyond Italy and California isn't as deep, but honestly, the Italian depth alone justifies the list size. If you came here to drink Italy, you will not be disappointed.
Fifteen to twenty-five pours by the glass is a serious commitment for a restaurant of this size and market, running $12β$20 a glass. The rotation doesn't appear to change frequently β this is more of a curated standing program than a chalkboard-special situation β but the range gives casual drinkers and serious wine people alike something to work with.
Marcarini Barolo β $60β$80 (est. bottle)
Marcarini is a classically-styled Barolo producer that doesn't get the hype of the bigger names but consistently overdelivers. At an Italian steakhouse in Ohio, you're getting serious Nebbiolo at a price point that would be higher in a major market β and it belongs on your table next to a bistecca.
Pio Cesare Barolo
Most tables here are reaching for the Caymus or Silver Oak out of habit. Meanwhile, Pio Cesare is one of the most reliable, traditional Barolo houses in all of Piedmont β structured, complex, age-worthy β and it's getting overlooked by everyone ordering the California cab they drink at home. This is the move.
Opus One
Look, Opus One is a genuinely good wine. But it's also one of the most marked-up bottles on every restaurant list in America, and there's nothing on this menu that demands it over, say, a Sassicaia at a likely better price-to-experience ratio. You're paying for the name here more than the glass.
Tignanello + Bistecca or grilled ribeye
Tignanello β Sangiovese with a backbone of Cabernet β was basically invented for a situation like this: a serious grilled steak at an Italian restaurant. The wine has the structure to stand up to the char and the fruit to balance the fat. It's a textbook match and one of the few places in Ohio where you can actually order it without feeling like you special-requested something.
π₯ The Bottom Line
Station Square Ristorante is the wine list Youngstown doesn't know it has β deep Italian selections, prestige California anchors, and 450+ bottles that would turn heads in any city. The markups are real and there's no dynamic specials program to soften them, but if you're willing to invest in a bottle of Barolo or a Super Tuscan, this place delivers.

Antone's isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be β the list is fair-priced and honest, which is more than you can say for a lot of places charging twice as much for the same bottles. Send a friend here for dinner without hesitation; just tell them to skip the White Zin.

Blue Wolf Tavern earns its reputation as a great neighborhood spot, but the wine list is an afterthought and everyone involved seems to know it. Stick to the bar menu β the cocktails and beer selection will serve you far better than two grocery-tier pours ever will.

Salvatore's isn't a wine destination, but it's a perfectly functional neighborhood Italian spot where the wine won't embarrass you and Wednesday's half-price bottle deal is genuinely worth planning around. Send your parents here; just steer them away from the Woodbridge.

StoneBridge is a neighborhood bar and grill that serves food, not a restaurant that takes wine seriously β and two labels confirms that. Order a cocktail or a beer and have a good time; just don't come here expecting anything from the wine list.

L'uva Bella is the kind of place that earns your respect by not pretending to be something it isn't β it's an Ohio winery doing Ohio wine, and at these prices, that's a story worth hearing. Send your most wine-skeptical friend here; they'll leave with a new opinion about Lake Erie and a $14 tab for two glasses.

Johnny's is doing the most with a crowd-pleasing formula β 160 bottles, a Wine Spectator nod, and a list that won't offend anyone. Markups on the trophy bottles are hard to defend, but if you know where to look, there's a solid night of wine here for a reasonable bill.

Ca' Dario Steakhouse is a reliable wine destination for anyone who wants serious Italian bottles with their steak without having to navigate a 300-label monster list. The markups trend steep, especially on the celebrity bottles, but the Santa Barbara Syrah and Sicilian options give value-hunters a legitimate path.
