Wingman Metrics
Walking into a casual all-day Spanish diner and finding Vega Sicilia 'Único' on the list is a genuine double-take moment. The list is compact — somewhere in the 40-to-80-bottle range — but it punches well above its weight for a spot that also serves breakfast eggs at noon. This is José Andrés doing what José Andrés does: making serious Iberian wine accessible in a room that doesn't feel precious about it.
The list is a tight, Spain-only affair, and that focus is its greatest strength. You've got the full sweep from Rías Baixas Albariño to Priorat Garnacha blends to the crown jewel of Ribera del Duero in one menu. Alvaro Palacios' 'Les Terrasses' from Priorat brings old-vine credibility, while the CVNE 'Imperial' Gran Reserva represents classic Rioja done right. The Lustau Amontillado is a genuinely smart inclusion that most diners will overlook, and that's a shame. What's missing is much range in the middle tier — the list leans toward marquee names, which means markups follow accordingly.
Eight to fourteen pours by the glass is a respectable spread for a casual diner format, and if the list reflects what's available on the bottle side, you can expect Albariño and a Rioja red among the rotation. There's no evidence of an active rotation program, so don't expect weekly surprises — what's on the list is likely what's been on the list. Still, for a neighborhood spot, the glass options should cover most of the table's needs without anyone settling.
Do Ferreiro Albariño Rías Baixas — $55
Crisp, saline, and built for pan con tomate — this is exactly the wine the menu wants you to drink, and it's almost certainly the most honest price-to-quality ratio on the list.
Lustau Amontillado Sherry
Most tables will skip this entirely and miss out. Amontillado from Lustau is nutty, dry, and complex in a way that costs twice as much in a proper wine bar — order it with charcuterie or as a pre-dinner pour and thank us later.
Vega Sicilia 'Único' Ribera del Duero
Look, Único is one of Spain's greatest wines — nobody's disputing that. But in a casual diner setting, you're paying a serious restaurant markup on a bottle that deserves a more intentional evening. Save it for somewhere with the cellar and the ceremony to do it justice.
Alvaro Palacios 'Les Terrasses' Priorat + Pan con tomate
The Garnacha-dominant blend from Palacios has enough fruit and earthy grip to complement the olive oil richness of pan con tomate without steamrolling the simplicity of the dish — it's Spain in a glass meeting Spain on a plate.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Spanish Diner Bethesda is a wildcard: a laid-back all-day spot with a wine list that has no business being this interesting. The markups keep it from being a destination wine play, but if you're in Bethesda and want to drink actual Spain with your tapas, this is your move.
Bethesda · Bethesda · American
This is a wine list for people who aren't really thinking about wine, and there's no shame in ordering a cocktail instead. If you're staying at the hotel, grab a glass at the bar and call it a night — just don't expect the list to reward any real attention.

Clyde's isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — and the Monday half-price bottle deal genuinely redeems a list that would otherwise be hard to recommend at full price. Come for the vibe, come back on a Monday.

Yard House Gaithersburg is a craft beer destination that happens to sell wine — and the wine list knows it. Come for the taps, stay for the pretzels, and don't expect the Pinot Noir to surprise you.

McCormick & Schmick's Bethesda isn't a wine destination — it's a corporate seafood chain with a wine list to match, priced for convenience, not discovery. Order a cocktail, or bring a bottle if they allow corkage.

Bethesda · Bethesda · Lebanese / Middle Eastern
Bacchus of Lebanon isn't a wine destination by any stretch, but it's one of the few spots in Bethesda where you can drink actual Lebanese wine with Lebanese food — and that specificity matters. If you're even mildly curious about what the Bekaa Valley is doing, this is an approachable, affordable place to find out.

Morton's Bethesda is a well-run, expensive wine program built to please a crowd that already knows what it likes — and it delivers that without apology. Send a friend here if they want a great glass of Napa Cab with a perfect steak; send them elsewhere if they're looking for anything resembling discovery.

Jaleo Bethesda is the rare restaurant where the wine list actually matches the food program — Spanish through and through, fairly priced, and staffed by people who can walk you through it. Come on a Wednesday, order a bottle of Tondonia, and let someone else drive home.

Urdaneta isn't trying to run a wine bar — it's trying to run a great Spanish tapas spot, and the wine list earns its keep by staying honest to that mission. If you care about drinking something that actually makes sense with your food, this list delivers.
