Ten wines on the list sounds like a red flag until you actually read them — this is not a restaurant that grabbed whatever the distributor rep left on the table. There's a Grüner Veltliner from Burgenland, a Cava from Penedès, and a Santa Barbara Chardonnay all living together on one page at a Southern restaurant in Atlanta, which tells you someone here is paying attention.
The list skews heavily European with a smart California cameo or two. Austria, Alto Adige, Germany's Rheingau, Champagne, Valpolicella, and a Rhône-style GSM from California's Central Coast — it's a tight but genuinely interesting range. The Hofstatter Pinot Bianco and Herbert Zillinger Neuland Grüner Veltliner are the kinds of bottles you'd expect to see at a wine bar in Decatur, not alongside biscuits and pork fat. The reds are a little thinner — BloodRoot Pinot Noir, a Valpolicella, a Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre blend, and a Miner Cab round things out — but nothing here feels lazy or filler.
Every single wine on the list is available by the glass, which means the entire program is a glass pour program — no bottle-only exclusives hiding in the back. At $15–$27 a glass, you're paying for the curation, and at the higher end of that range you're getting wines that most Atlanta restaurants don't even stock. Rotation appears static rather than seasonal, but when the base list is this considered, that's a forgivable sin.
Ca' La Bionda Valpolicella 2023 — $15
Ca' La Bionda is a serious Valpolicella producer making wine the old way — no shortcuts, no Amarone ambitions here, just clean, bright Corvina-based red with real character. At the low end of the glass price range, this is the move if you want to drink well without thinking too hard about it.
Herbert Zillinger Neuland Grüner Veltliner 2023
Zillinger farms biodynamically in Weinviertel and makes wines that taste alive in a way that's hard to explain on a menu. Most people at a Southern restaurant are going to skip the Austrian Grüner and grab the Chardonnay — which means more of this for everyone who knows.
Miner Emily's Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Miner is a fine Napa producer and Emily's Cab is a perfectly pleasant wine, but it's also the most predictable bottle on this list — and almost certainly the one with the highest markup relative to what it delivers. With everything else going on here, ordering the Napa Cab feels like going to a great ramen shop and ordering the burger.
Land of Saints Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre 2022 + Any smoked or braised pork dish on the menu
A GSM blend from California's Central Coast brings the kind of dark fruit, dried herb, and savory weight that was basically engineered to sit next to smoky, fatty Southern pork. It's the most food-friendly red on the list and it earns its place on a Southern menu more than the Cab does.
The Bottom Line
SouthernNational is doing something genuinely unusual — running a tight, Europe-forward wine list inside a Southern kitchen, and mostly pulling it off. If you're tired of the same Sonoma Pinot and overpriced Malbec at every restaurant in town, this list is worth your attention.

Divinely Elegant Vines is a single-producer tasting room that leans hard into legitimate California appellations and keeps prices in a range that doesn't require a conversation with your accountant first. The Wild Card badge is earned: it's not the kind of list you'd expect to find worth a trip, but the Howell Mountain Cab and the Russian River Pinot Noir are the real deal for the price. If you're open to the house-label format and curious about California appellations without the usual Napa markup trauma, this is worth your time.

Kinship is the Wild Card badge in its purest form: a butcher shop and sandwich counter moonlighting as a legitimate wine destination, with a sommelier on staff and a tasting menu that'll run you $325 a head. Come for the meat, stay because the wine list earned it.
