Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Smokin Fins reads like a greatest hits album you've heard a hundred times — Rombauer, Kim Crawford, Meiomi. It's not trying to surprise you, and it doesn't. What it does do is get out of the way of some solid seafood without embarrassing itself.
The list leans heavily California and New Zealand, with some Pacific Northwest representation that at least nods to regional identity. You're not going to find anything obscure or producer-driven here — this is a menu built for table-wide agreement, not exploration. The gaps are real: no Champagne or sparkling to speak of, no Rosé worth mentioning, and anything outside the Pinot Noir / Chardonnay / Sauvignon Blanc triangle is probably an afterthought. For a seafood-forward concept, there's a missed opportunity to lean harder into crisp whites and minerally options that actually love fish.
Eight to twelve pours by the glass gives you enough rope to work with, though the range tops out around $16 and the list doesn't rotate much. Prices are on the steeper side for Idaho Falls, where $14 a glass for Meiomi Pinot Noir feels like a downtown Portland markup without the downtown Portland list.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — $10
At the lower end of the glass price range, Kim Crawford is the obvious call here — bright, citrusy, and genuinely good with the fish tacos or a sushi roll. It won't blow your mind but it won't blow your budget either, and it actually fits the food.
Pacific Northwest selections
The Pacific Northwest wines on the list deserve more attention than they'll get. Sitting next to Rombauer and Meiomi, they tend to get overlooked — but if the staff can point you toward a Washington or Oregon pour, it's likely to be the most interesting thing on the list and better suited to the menu.
Rombauer Chardonnay
Rombauer is everywhere, and here it's priced accordingly. At a casual sushi and seafood spot in Idaho Falls, you're paying a premium for a brand name that happens to be big, oaky, and not especially well-matched to delicate fish. Save the Rombauer money for the food.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc + Ahi Tuna
The high acid and citrus snap of Kim Crawford cuts through the richness of ahi tuna clean and fast. It's not a complicated pairing — it's just the right one.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Smokin Fins isn't a wine destination, but it's a competent one — the list is safe, a little overpriced, and built to please rather than impress. Order the Kim Crawford, eat the ahi tuna, and you'll leave happy enough.
Idaho Falls · Idaho Falls · Steakhouse / Seafood / American
Jakers isn't going to win any wine awards, but for a steakhouse in Idaho Falls it punches above its weight on value — especially during happy hour when half-price house wines make a pre-dinner glass genuinely hard to argue with. Send a friend here for a steak night and point them toward the Willamette Pinot or the Lan Crianza; they'll thank you.

Buffalo Wild Wings Idaho Falls is a perfectly fine place to watch a game and eat wings — just don't let the wine list anywhere near your evening. Order a beer, order a cocktail, order a second order of wings. The wine program is an afterthought and it shows in every bottle markup and unbranded house pour.

Downtown Idaho Falls · Idaho Falls · Bistro / New American
Junkyard Bistro's wine list is doing the bare minimum — recognizable names, steep markups on the top shelf, and nothing to make you put down your phone and pay attention. Drink the St. Chappelle, skip the Cakebread Cab at that price, and save your serious wine curiosity for somewhere that earns it.

The SnakeBite isn't a wine destination, but it's a Wild Card worth knowing about — a downtown burger joint that bothered to build a real wine list with fair prices and decent range. Come for the burgers, stay for the Pessimist.

Jaker's isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be one — it's a solid neighborhood steakhouse with a wine list that does exactly what it needs to do. Send a friend here confident they won't be gouged or confused, just fed and poured reasonably well.

This is the wine list equivalent of unlimited breadsticks — comforting, familiar, and not something you'd brag about to anyone. Come for the pasta, order a cocktail, or bring your own bottle if they'll let you.
