Beer bar with a surprisingly decent wine bench

Roosevelt's is a craft beer destination first, a wine bar never — but the wine list doesn't embarrass itself. You flip past the tap list and find a page of familiar California names priced without the usual downtown gouging. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is, which we actually respect.
The list runs about 20-35 bottles deep and sticks firmly to crowd-pleasing California anchors — Decoy, Meiomi, DAOU, Jordan, Stags' Leap — with a handful of Italian bottles (Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, a Greco di Tufo, Justo Rosso) rounding out the roster. There's no adventurous winemaking here, no natural bottles hiding in the corner, no deep cuts from lesser-known appellations. That said, anchoring the list with Jordan and Stags' Leap Cab in a pub setting is a genuine effort, and the Bieler Père & Fils Rosé is a smart, sessionable pick that fits the room. Sparkling coverage is thin but functional — a Moët NV for celebrations, Freixenet Cava when you just want bubbles.
The by-the-glass program runs an estimated 10-16 options, covering the major bases: a Chardonnay (Kendall-Jackson), a Pinot Grigio (Santa Margherita or Alta Luna), a rosé, a couple of Cabs, and Pinot Noir in both Elouan and Meiomi form. Pours are priced at $10-$16, which is fair for the market. Don't expect rotation or a chalk board of surprises — what's on the list today is what's been on the list for a while.
Bieler Père & Fils Rosé — $10–$12/glass (est.)
A genuine Provence rosé in a beer bar at pub prices is a minor miracle. Crisp, dry, and infinitely more interesting than the house stuff — it's the move on a warm South Texas evening.
Greco di Tufo
Most people at Roosevelt's are here for IPAs and burgers, so this Southern Italian white sits largely ignored. If you like textured, slightly mineral whites, this beats every Chardonnay on the list — order it before someone else figures that out.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
It's fine, but you can buy this at any H-E-B for under $15. Restaurant pricing erases whatever value it had, and there are better glass pours on this same list for the same money.
DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon + Hand-crafted burger
DAOU is built for exactly this moment — rich, dark-fruited, with enough structure to cut through a loaded beef patty. It's the kind of pairing that doesn't require any thought, which is the point when you're at a pub.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Roosevelt's is a beer bar that takes its wine list just seriously enough to not embarrass the wine drinker at the table. If you're dragged here by a craft beer enthusiast, you'll find something decent to drink — just don't expect anyone to talk terroir with you.

Cheddar's is a solid spot for a Monte Cristo and a cold beer — but the wine program is a corporate afterthought dressed up as a list. Order a cocktail, tip your server well, and save the wine for somewhere that earned it.

P.F. Chang's McAllen isn't a destination for wine lovers, but the list is thoughtfully assembled for what it is — a chain that actually considered food-pairing when building it. Order a Riesling, get the Lettuce Wraps, and adjust your expectations accordingly.

Macaroni Grill McAllen isn't a wine destination, but Thursday's half-price bottle night makes it a reasonable call if you're already going for the pasta. Show up on a Wednesday and order cocktails instead.

This is the wine list of a restaurant that views wine as a line item, not a feature. Come for the pasta and the endless breadsticks — just don't expect the wine to be part of the story.

Texas de Brazil McAllen isn't a wine destination, but it's not a wine disaster either — the list is overpriced in spots and short on imagination, but the anchor bottles are solid enough to carry a big carnivore night. Send your friend here for the meat; just tell them to reach for the Malbec and skip the Pinot Grigio.
