Walk into Ravines' Geneva tasting room on the west shore of Seneca Lake and it's immediately clear this isn't a gift-shop-and-a-pour operation. The focus is sharp, the wines are estate-driven, and the whole setup — library tastings, curated flights, seasonal events — signals that someone here is taking this seriously. This is a winery first, a tasting experience second, and that ordering matters.
The list is intentionally narrow: everything poured comes from Ravines' own Finger Lakes vineyards, and that's the point. Morten Hallgren's European sensibility shows up across the board — the dry Rieslings are the flagship and they earn that status, with single-vineyard bottlings that actually show you how much terroir varies across the lake. Beyond Riesling, there's a Cabernet Franc that punches well above what most people expect from the region, a Méthode Champenoise sparkling that's genuinely worth your attention, and a Field Blend white that rounds out the lineup without feeling like filler. The gaps are obvious — if you want Bordeaux or Barolo, wrong room — but within the Finger Lakes canon, this is a benchmark pour.
This is a tasting-room format, so flights are the vehicle — typically priced in the $15–$30 range depending on the tier. There's no traditional by-the-glass menu, but the structured tastings function as a guided progression through the portfolio, which is frankly more useful. Library tastings, when available, give you a look at older vintages that you won't find anywhere else.

You're tasting through one of the most consistent Riesling programs in New York for the price of two cocktails. The dry Riesling alone justifies the trip — it's precise, mineral-driven, and nothing like what most people think 'Riesling' means.
Ravines Méthode Champenoise Sparkling Wine
Everyone comes for the Riesling and overlooks the sparkling, which is a mistake. Traditional-method bubbles from Finger Lakes grapes with actual complexity — this is the bottle most visitors walk past on their way to the white wine section.
Ravines Late-Harvest Riesling
Not bad wine — far from it — but if your palate leans dry and you're working through a tasting, the dessert-style pour at the end can muddy the experience. Save it for a different visit when it can be the whole conversation, not an afterthought.
Ravines Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes) + Vineyard Picnic Charcuterie (Ravinous Summer Picnic)
Ravines runs seasonal vineyard picnic events with charcuterie boards, and their Cab Franc — earthy, peppery, lighter on tannin than most — cuts right through cured meats without overwhelming them. It's the kind of match that makes you wonder why you ever drink anything else outside on a summer afternoon.
The Bottom Line
Ravines is the rare winery tasting experience that makes you forget you're on a tourism trail — the wines are too honest for that. If you're anywhere near the Finger Lakes and you skip this, you're doing it wrong.

If you're passing through Geneva or heading to the wine trail, this is the obvious stop for a nightcap with some ambition behind it. Book ahead, order a flight, and ask whoever's behind the bar what they're excited about.

The Hunt Club is an intriguing case — a special-occasion steakhouse in the Wisconsin lake country with a members-only wine program that hints at more depth than the public-facing list reveals. If you're a Geneva National member, the 50% off bottles and boutique wine access make this a genuine wine destination; if you're not, it's a solid steakhouse wine list with a scenic backdrop and fair pricing that won't embarrass anyone. Go for the ribeye and Parker rolls either way — and ask your server what's behind the member curtain before you order.
