Wingman Metrics
You open the wine list at an Italian restaurant and expect to find at least a Barolo or a Vermentino — something that signals the kitchen takes the cuisine seriously. Instead, every single bottle and glass pour is a Cooper's Hawk house label. Every. Single. One. This isn't a wine list; it's a branded catalog.
Fifty-eight labels sounds like a real list until you realize the 'producer' column never changes. The range runs from flavored sparkling wines like the Watermelon Paloma and Blood Orange Pineapple Spritzy Sangria all the way up to a Lux Cabernet Sauvignon at $45.99/bottle — but every stop on that journey is a Cooper's Hawk product. There are no Italian regional wines, no imported producers, no third-party bottles to anchor the 'Piccolo Buco' part of the name to anything approaching Italian wine culture. The tiered Lux line attempts to signal quality differentiation within the house portfolio, but without independent benchmarks it's hard to know what you're actually getting.
The by-the-glass program is, on paper, generous: 40 options across a range of styles from sweet fruit-forward pours to the Lux tier. Prices run $8 to $15/glass, which is accessible. But when the entire roster is proprietary, 'variety' is more of an illusion — you're choosing between different expressions of the same brand, not exploring a wine program.
The Bottom Line
Piccolo Buco is a Cooper's Hawk restaurant wearing Italian clothes, and the wine list makes no attempt to hide that. If you're already a Cooper's Hawk member and enjoy their wines, this is a comfortable, predictable experience with fair glass pricing and decent variety within the brand. If you came hoping for a Sicilian white or a Piedmontese red to go with your pasta, you're in the wrong place — order a cocktail.

Bar Louie Naperville's wine list exists to check a box, not to excite anyone. Order a beer or a cocktail — the bartenders are more invested in those anyway.

Oak Brook · Naperville · Steakhouse
Gibsons Oak Brook is a reliable, if unexciting, wine stop — the BTG program is genuinely strong in volume, but the markups and brand-safe selections keep it from being anything more than comfortable. Order smart and you'll drink well enough; let the table pick and you'll probably end up with Whispering Angel.

Fire + Wine is doing something genuinely thoughtful in a market that usually settles for Malbec and Pinot Grigio. The sparkling program alone is worth the trip, and the value on the French and Italian bottles is hard to argue with.

Goat & Vine is a one-winery show, and that's both its charm and its ceiling. Send a friend here if they want a casual, curiosity-driven evening — not if they're looking for serious wine range.

Santo Cielo is a great place to have a drink — the atmosphere earns that — but the wine list isn't the reason you're going. Come for the rooftop and the small plates; just don't expect the wine program to match the view.

Entourage earns its stripes as a genuinely thoughtful suburban wine list — fair pricing, more depth than the address suggests, and a by-the-glass program that actually tries. We'd send a friend here without hesitation, especially if they're willing to wander past the Chardonnay section.

A long bottle list with Italian, Burgundy and Champagne sections, fronted by a 22-wine glass page. For a glass, try the Skerk Orange Wine from Friuli at 25/95, and for a bottle on a lighter budget, the Volpaia Vermentino at 60; upstairs in the café, the labeled list pours Palistorti di Valgiano's orange Tuscan blend at Glass $22. Confirm prices before you order, because the site's Upstairs Café dinner menu and the beverage PDF do not match. This unrated guide covers the posted wine lists, not service, storage or markups.

An Italian list that leads with Campania, then works region by region through the rest of Italy. Start with the La Passera Greco di Tufo at 50 for white or the Terredora Aglianico at 48 for red, and if you want Chianti, the Banfi Riserva is 45. Prices come from the wine list linked as "Wine List 24" and post no unit, so confirm what is available. This unrated guide covers the posted wine list, not service, storage or markups.

Cinghiale's glass list is built for exploring Italy, with 23 pours, each offered in three or six ounces. Try a three-ounce Donelli Lambrusco at $4.50 or Gini Soave Classico 2024 at $6 before committing to a larger pour, then ask about the regional bottle list. Confirm the current list before ordering.
