The wine list at Oh' Calcutta is short and plays it safe — a handful of familiar bottles, nothing adventurous, nothing that'll make a wine nerd swoon. But then you notice the Tuesday deal, and suddenly the whole calculus shifts. Half-price bottles every Tuesday from 4 to 9 PM turns a mediocre markup into a genuinely good deal.
The list leans heavily on approachable domestic and international house pours — Parducci Pinot Noir out of California, a Mendoza Malbec, a Trentino Pinot Grigio, and a Russian River Chardonnay that doesn't specify a producer, which is never a great sign. There's no depth here: no regional Indian wine curiosities, no natural wine flirtation, no old-world exploration to speak of. The selection feels like it was chosen to not offend rather than to actually complement the kitchen. A list built around spice-friendly whites — a dry Riesling, an Alsatian Gewurz, even a good Viognier — would do a lot more for the food.
There are a few glass pours on offer, including the Dom Rudolfo Malbec and Dipinti Pinot Grigio at $10 a glass, plus the Lunetta Prosecco at $14. The Prosecco markup at 350% is aggressive for a $12 retail bottle — skip it unless you're celebrating something that demands bubbles. The glass program is slim and unlikely to rotate.
Dom Rudolfo Malbec — $10/glass
At retail equivalence and a 200% markup, it's the least punishing glass on the list — and a fruit-forward Malbec actually holds its own against the bolder spice notes in the kitchen.
Parducci Small Lot Pinot Noir
On a Tuesday, this bottle drops to $19 — which is pretty close to retail and makes it a legitimately decent pour with the lamb vindaloo. Nobody's ordering Pinot Noir with Indian food, which is exactly why you should.
Lunetta Prosecco NV
A $12 retail bottle at $14 a glass is a 350% markup on something you can find at any grocery store. The bubbles aren't worth it here — save the Prosecco money for a Tuesday bottle instead.
Dipinti Pinot Grigio + Saag Paneer
The Dipinti's light body and mild acidity won't fight the creamy, earthy spinach base of the saag paneer — it's a low-risk, high-reward combo that keeps the palate clean between bites.
Tuesday — Half-priced bottles of wine every Tuesday from 4:00 PM–9:00 PM. Discount applies to all wine bottles on the regular list; menu shows pre-discount prices.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Oh' Calcutta's wine list is unremarkable on its own — but Tuesday nights flip the script entirely, and a $19 Pinot Noir with lamb vindaloo is a genuinely good time. Come for the food, plan around Tuesday, and don't overthink it.

Graylyn Estate is a genuinely beautiful place to have dinner, but the wine list is an afterthought in a room that deserves intention. Order the sea bass, grab the La Crema, and try not to think too hard about what this list could have been.

Sixty Vines is a solid, reliable wine stop in Winston-Salem — the by-the-glass breadth is real and the staff knows their stuff, but the list reads like a greatest hits album rather than anything adventurous. Come for the volume, stay for the pizza, but don't expect to have your mind changed about wine.

Quanto Basta punches above its weight for a mid-size Southern city Italian spot — the Italian-focused list is thoughtful, the prices are fair, and Thursday half-price bottles make it one of the best weekly wine deals in Winston-Salem. Come hungry, come on a Thursday, and order the Falanghina.

Umi is a fun hibachi night out, and the wine pricing is honestly fairer than it has any right to be — but the list itself is an afterthought, and no amount of fair markup fixes a selection that's two bottles deep in personality. Order sake, or a cocktail, and come back to us when they add a Grüner Veltliner.

Village Tavern Reynolda isn't a destination wine list, but it earns its keep with real range, at least one smart Italian pick, and a Wednesday half-price program that makes it genuinely worth planning around. Send a friend here on a Wednesday — tell them to order the Arneis.

Saffron isn't a wine destination, but the half-price bottle happy hour (Tuesday–Sunday, 3–6 PM) and genuinely low base prices make it a smart stop for anyone who wants a solid pour without a $60 bottle commitment. Order the Riesling, get the tikka masala, and enjoy the deal.

Masala Bites is exactly the kind of Wild Card that earns its stripes — a well-considered wine list in a place you'd never think to look for one. Send your friends who claim wine doesn't work with Indian food; the Riesling will change their minds.

Nazara is the rare Indian restaurant where the wine list is worth your actual attention — California-focused and safe, sure, but fairly priced and legitimately curated. We'd send a friend here who wants a proper bottle of wine with their lamb.
