Big List, Chain Prices, Napa Rules Everything

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Ocean Prime Boulder lands with the confidence of a national chain that has done its homework — 200-plus bottles, a proper sommelier on the floor, and a clear California-forward identity. It reads like a greatest-hits album of Napa and Sonoma: recognizable, crowd-pleasing, safe. Whether that excites or bores you depends entirely on what you came here for.
The list leans hard into Napa Cabernet and Chardonnay — Caymus, Far Niente, Duckhorn, Jordan, Silver Oak — with some Burgundy and Bordeaux tucked in for the table that wants to flex. It's a well-curated version of what every upscale steakhouse does, which means the depth is real but the adventure is not. Serious wine nerds will find the California classics done right; anyone hunting for natural pours, unusual regions, or anything off the beaten path will come up empty. France gets a supporting role, not a starring one.
Twenty to thirty by-the-glass options is genuinely impressive for a chain, and the program covers whites, reds, and bubbles across multiple price points. The selections mirror the bottle list — Rombauer Chardonnay will almost certainly be pouring, and there's likely a Meiomi Pinot Noir for the crowd that wants something approachable. Rotation appears minimal; this list is set-it-and-forget-it, not a chalkboard that changes weekly.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 — $135
At 69% over retail it's not cheap, but in a room where Opus One clocks in at $750, Jordan is the relative bargain. It's a genuinely well-made Alexander Valley Cab that holds its own next to a prime filet without demanding you remortgage anything.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Most tables at Ocean Prime are reaching for Caymus on autopilot, but the Artemis at $105 is a more structured, food-friendly Cab with actual Stags Leap District pedigree behind it. It doesn't get ordered enough, which means your server won't push it — ask for it anyway.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2023
Fifty-four dollars for a bottle you can grab at any grocery store for $18 is a 200% markup and a genuine insult to your wallet. Kim Crawford is fine wine — it's also the most widely distributed Sauvignon Blanc in America. Order it at home, not here.
Far Niente Chardonnay + Chilean Sea Bass
Far Niente's Chardonnay has the weight and oak integration to stand up to the rich, buttery texture of Ocean Prime's Chilean sea bass without steamrolling the fish. It's a classic California white-meets-rich-seafood move, and it works every time.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Ocean Prime Boulder is a reliable, well-run wine program that does exactly what it sets out to do — impress a business dinner or a special occasion table with familiar California heavyweights and proper service. Just go in with eyes open on the pricing, steer clear of the grocery-store pours, and you'll drink well enough.
University Hill · Boulder · Spanish- and Moroccan-inspired tapas and small plates
Cafe Aion's wine list is solidly built around its concept, and the daily 50% off bottles deal from 3pm to close is one of the most generous standing wine programs in Boulder — full stop. The markups at full price are steep enough to give you pause, so do yourself a favor and show up before dinner.

Boulder Social is a solid neighborhood hangout where beer is the move and wine is an afterthought priced accordingly. If it's Tuesday, half-price bottles change the math — otherwise, stick to the taps.

Via Perla isn't trying to be a wine destination — it's trying to be a great Italian osteria, and the wine list serves that goal honestly. Come for the pasta and the Barolo, don't overthink it.

Carelli's is a dependable neighborhood Italian with a wine list that matches its ambition — comfortable and crowd-pleasing, not adventurous. Send your friend here if they want a nice Italian night and a bottle of Antinori; steer them elsewhere if they're hoping to find something they've never tried before.

Gemini is the kind of place Boulder doesn't have enough of — a restaurant where the wine list actually reflects the food and the region it's inspired by. If you eat Spanish, you should be drinking Iberian, and Gemini makes that case effortlessly.

Goss-Grove · Boulder · Argentinian / Latin American
Rincon Argentino is a genuinely good casual spot for Argentine food, but the wine list is a missed opportunity — overpriced supermarket bottles with no rotation, no discovery, and no apparent effort. Grab a glass with your empanadas, but don't build a night around the wine.
